Denoxtronic (DNOX)
The Bosch Denoxtronic reducing agent metering system is currently used on diesel combustion
engines for commercial vehicles and trucks and, in the future, also in the agricultural sector. The
system permits compliance with Euro 5 emission limit values and future emission standards (e.g
Euro 6, US 14) concerning nitrogen oxide emissions.
In conjunction with an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalytic converter, it helps to reduce
nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions by up to 85 % and consumption as well as CO emissions by
2
up to 5 %.
The purification process is triggered by AdBlue - a non-toxic reducing agent consisting of water
and urea - which is precisely metered into the exhaust gas flow.
In the first system generation, which went into series production in 2004, compressed air was
used for this purpose. In the second Denoxtronic generation, launched in 2006, air is not used
to assist with AdBlue metering.
SCR catalytic converter
Many manufacturers equip their diesel vehicles with an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
catalytic converter system. The SCR process functions with AdBlue as reducing agent.
In addition to the catalytic converter, the Denoxtronic reducing agent metering system from
Bosch is a central feature of this technology. SCR catalytic converters can be used separately
or in combination with a particulate filter.
