Preparations for A/C service

The ACS 400/450 is designed exclusively for
type R134a coolants . Before the A/C service,
check in the vehicle documentation whether
this coolant is used in the A/C system .

During the filling phase in vehicle air-con-
ditioning systems which only have the low-
pressure connection, the LP valve must be
opened no further than is necessary to allow
the refrigerant to start flowing audibly . This
will prevent the compressor in the air-condi-
tioning system from intaking fluid refrigerant .
In all other phases, the LP valve must be in
the fully open state

To ensure that the vehicle air conditioning
system is filled properly, drain the entire air-
conditioning system and then fill again to the
refrigerant capacity specified by the vehicle
manufacturer .

The ACS 400/450 cannot be used for ser-
vicing a vehicle A/C system that has been
repaired with a chemical sealant . The sealant
could damage the ACS 400/450 and the vehi-
cle A/C system . Non-compliance invalidates
the warranty .

Before servicing the vehicle A/C system, the
following preparations are always necessary:
1.
Place ACS 400/450 on a level surface close
to the vehicle A/C system .
2.
Secure the ACS 400/450 against rolling
away with the parking brakes .
3.
Connect mains cable .
4.
Depending on the A/C system in the vehi-
cle, connect either the LP/HP rapid action
couplings (Fig . 1; item 7) or only the LP
rapid action coupling to the service con-
nections on the A/C system .
5.
Open the rapid action coupling valves
clockwise .

The current internal pressure of the
vehicle A/C system is displayed on the
low and high pressure manometer (or
only on low pressure manometer) .
6.
Switch on ACS 400/450 with main switch .

weight depends on the current operating
state of the ACS 400/450 and can vary .
