• If a foreign object has gotten
between the tire and the fender, stop
immediately and remove the foreign
object.
• Always make sure that the fender
stays are properly and securely fas-
tened before cycling off.
• Never ride with a loose fender strut.
This can wedge with the wheel and
block it.
• Have damaged fenders replaced by
a FLYER specialist dealer before
cycling again.
20 Pedals
20.1 Mounting the pedals
Important: Always have pedals dis-
i
mantled and mounted by a FLYER
specialist dealer or have yourself
instructed in their correct handling.
Important: For safety reasons,
i
FLYER advises against the use of
pedals with hooks and straps.
Note the following points for mounting ped-
als:
• Coat both threads with assembly grease
before screwing in the pedals.
• Note that there is a right pedal and a left
pedal.
Usually, the pedals are marked (e.g.
by stamping an "R" on the right pedal and
an "L" on the left pedal).
• Screw the right pedal clockwise and
the left pedal counterclockwise into the
cranks.
Be sure to screw the pedals in straight.
If they are screwed in crooked, there is a
risk of breakage and falling!
• Pedals must be screwed in with the
appropriate wrench.
Observe the correct tightening torque
when screwing in.
Torque: See information on your
pedals in the accompanying Techni-
cal Data document.
20.2 Notes on system and
clipless pedals
Important: When using system or
i
clipless pedals, be sure to follow the
associated manufacturer's instruc-
tions.
• Practice engaging and disengaging the
shoes in the pedal retainers before your first
ride in a quiet, safe place. Poorly releasing
clipless pedals are a safety hazard!
With system pedals, the release hard-
ness can be adjusted. Complete the first
runs with the release hardness set very
lightly!
• Clean system pedals regularly and main-
tain them with a suitable lubricant.
• The surfaces of the pedals can some-
times be very coarse. This improves the
grip on the pedal. However, leather soles
can be damaged by the rough surface.
20.3 Notes on folding pedals
Folding pedals can be easily and safely
folded towards the crank. In this way, you
can store or transport your e-bike in a
space-saving manner.
Important: When folding/unfolding the
i
folding pedals, follow the associated
folding instructions for your e-bike.
WARNING!
Risk of accident and injury
Pedals that are not securely fixed can
lead to serious falls and injuries.
• Always make sure that the folding
pedals are properly unfolded and
engaged before you start riding.
21 Quick releases
Quick releases are clamps that fix com-
ponents like a screw, but whose clamping
force is applied by flipping a lever without
tools. The clamping force is activated by
opening and closing the lever. The clamp-
ing force is adjusted by turning the locknut
when the lever is open.
