Four-channel Tape Recorder
Discrete four-channel
recording and playback
are made through
the
4 CH
TAPE
RECORDER
jacks.
For
playback,
connect
the
front line outputs of the tape recorder to the FRONT TAPE input
jacks and the back
line outputs
of the
recorder
to the
BACK
TAPE
input jacks.
For recording,
connect
the front line inputs
of the
recorder
to the
FRONT
REC
OUT
jacks
and
back line
inputs of the recorder to the BACK
REC OUT jacks.
Check
the
left and
right channel
connections—left
outputs to left inputs,
and right outputs to right inputs.

Program
Sources
Connect
the
line
outputs
of a four-channel
tape
recorder
or
discrete-disc adaptor to the DISCRETE INPUT jacks.
Power Connection
Before
making
any
form
of power connection,
make
sure the
POWER
switch
is set to OFF.
Then
connect
the SQD-2020
to
an electrical outlet with
power cord supplied.
OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS

OF CONTROLS
Before
attempting
to
operate
your
SQD-2020,
take
a
few
minutes to learn the function and location of the controls and
other parts mentioned
in the operating
instructions.
MASTER
VOLUME
control
Regulates the overall sound level of four-channel system.
Before
using this control, set up
each
left-front,
right-front,
left-back,
and right-back channel level as directed on page 26 "Four-chan-
nel Balance Adjustments".
FRONT
LEVEL
and
BACK
LEVEL
controls
and VU
meters
For precise four-channe!
balance,
each
channel's
output can be
separately adjusted with these
knobs.
The
level
is shown
on
the respective meter.
Note that the MASTER VOLUME
control
has no effect on the meter deflection.
BACK
TONE
controls (BASS
and TREBLE)
Control the prominence
of back channel
bass and treble notes.
Turn these
controls
clockwise
to
increase
bass
(or treble)
re-
sponse,
counterclockwise
to decrease
response.
Adjust to your
preference.
MODE
selector
This switch is normally kept in the released position (NORMAL).
In the MONO
position (pushed-in), the OUTPUT (to front preamp)
and back channel OUTPUT jacks provide monaural signal.
Use
the MONO
position for balancing
the four-channel
sound
level.
