Instructions for Use
Figure 6. Insert the needle through the TEMPLATE CENTER HOLE
11. Withdraw fluid from the reservoir using gentle negative pressure. Empty the
reservoir completely until air bubbles are present in the extension tubing.
NOTE:
Failure to withdraw all residual drug from pump's reservoir
and then attempting to overfill the reservoir can lead to
activation of the reservoir valve.
CAUTION:
If changing drug concentrations or solutions, perform a
reservoir rinse twice using sterile preservative-free Sodium
Chloride Injection, USP and program a bridge bolus. The
bridge bolus advances the old drug remaining in the pump
tubing, side catheter access port (if present) and catheter after
emptying and refilling the pump, to the catheter tip at the
prior flow rate. Refer to Appendices A and B for these
procedures.
12. Close the clamp and remove the 20 ml syringe.
CAUTION:
Failure to close the clamp before removing the 20 ml syringe
may allow air into the pump's reservoir which can result in
reservoir contamination or activation of the reservoir valve.
13. Attach the drug-filled syringe to the filter and the pressure monitor.
14. Turn the stopcock to the Pressure Monitor Tubing Off position.
15. Purge air from the fluid pathway.
16. Attach pressure monitor to the extension tubing and open the clamp. Slowly
inject at an infusion rate not greater than 1 ml per 3 seconds.
NOTE:
If you encounter unusual resistance before the maximum
10 ml or 18 ml is injected or you are unable to inject fluid the
pump reservoir valve has been activated.
