5.5.4 Monitoring device connections
The units KS 220 and KS...Ex are equipped with a ther-
mal motor monitor and a humidity sensor for the
motor.
Temperature monitoring is achieved with a single tem-
perature circuit consisting of bimetal temperature sen-
sors.
When used in areas with an explosion hazard, the
temperature monitoring device must be con-
nected in such a way that if it is triggered it can
only be restarted once the "release button" has
been manually activated!
On versions with switching devices, the monitoring
devices are connected and set accordingly.
The monitoring devices must be connected separately
on units with free cable ends!
Appropriate evaluation relays and settings are recom-
mended for this:
• Temperature monitoring:
• Relay: CM-MSS
• Threshold: Preset
• Triggered condition: Shutdown
• Humidity sensor:
• Relay: NIV 101
• Threshold: 30 kOhm
• Triggered condition: Warning or shutdown
All relays must be installed and connected out-
side the area with the explosion hazard!
Optional monitoring devices
• Leak electrode to monitor the sealing chamber for
leakages:
• Sensor: Leak electrode
• Relay: ER 143
• Threshold: 30 kOhm
• Triggered condition: Warning or shutdown
For this reason, no warranty claims can be accepted for
damages resulting from unsuitable monitoring!

5.6 Motor protection and activation types

5.6.1 Motor protection
The minimum requirement is a thermal relay/motor
protection switch with temperature compensation,
differential triggering and an anti-reactivation device in
accordance with VDE 0660 or the appropriate national
regulations.

If the product is connected to electrical systems in
which faults frequently occur, we recommend install-
ing additional protective devices at the customer
(overvoltage, undervoltage or phase failure relays,
lightning protection etc.). We also recommend install-
ing an earth leakage circuit breaker.
Local and national regulations must be adhered to
when connecting the product.
5.6.2 Activation types
Direct activation
At full load, the motor protection should be set to the
rated current at the operating point (see type plate). At
partial load, we recommend that the motor protection
be set 5% above the current measured at the operat-
ing point.
Starting transformer/soft start
Motor protection should be set to the rated current
when fully loaded. At partial load, we recommend that
the motor protection be set 5 % above the current
measured at the operating point. Start up time with
reduced voltage (approx. 70 %) is a maximum of
3 seconds.
Operation with frequency transformers
The product may not be operated on frequency trans-
formers.
Products with plugs/switching devices
Insert the plug into the plug socket and press the on/
off switch or let the product switch on/off automati-
cally by means of the attached level control system.
Switching devices can be ordered as accessories for
products with free cable ends. In this case, also observe
the instructions enclosed with the switching device.
Plugs and switching devices are not flood-proof.
Note the IP protection class. Always install
switching devices in such a way that they are
protected from flooding.
6 Startup
The "Start-up" chapter contains all the important
instructions for the operating personnel for starting up
and operating the product safely.
The following constraints must be adhered to and
monitored:
• Type of installation
• Operating mode
• Minimum water coverage / max. submersion
If the machine has not been operated for an
extended period, these constraints must also be
checked and any discovered faults rectified.
This manual must always be kept either by the product
or in a place specially reserved for it, where it is accessi-
ble for the entire operating personnel at all times.
