Welding Joints
To avoid deformation of the work piece during
cooling process, the work pieces have to be
prepared, if possible, in opposition to the
retraction force of the material.
Do not allow the structure to strut to avoid cracks in the welding joint. To avoid
cracks conduct welding process in two directly opposed fillet welds. Tilt the
electrode to an angle from 50 to 70° and weld evenly by using a slight side-to-
side wave.
Head-on Butt Weld
The distance of the joint angles (sloped) has to be up
to 4 mm. Weld the joint with tilted electrode.
Vertical Butt Weld
The distance of the joint angles (sloped) has to be up to
4 mm. If the thickness is small, weld the joint with a
vertical down weld. Otherwise you can weld vertical
upwards.
Hold the electrode tilted and move it with pendulum
movements. To achieve a good root penetration and
clean welding joint, make a second welding joint in
opposite direction.
Overhead Butt Weld
Adjust the welding current in order to make sure the
pool crater is not too liquid and to achieve a good
root penetration.
The ray of the arc has to be very short. If neces-
sary, strike the electrode out of the pool crater to
allow it to cool down.
