Properties of the I/O Module

4.1 System The Safety over IO-Link system consists of a sufficiently dimensioned power supply and three
properties required elements (see Figure 1):

The F-PLC is a PROFINET controller and PROFIsafe F-Host at the same time.
The Balluff IO-Link master represents a PROFINET device on the network level and is therefore
an interface between controller and IO-Link. It does not perform any safety functions itself, but
rather sends the arriving PROFIsafe information unchanged to the corresponding recipients
(F-PLC, Safety over IO-Link module) via tunneling. For this reason it does also not have to be
included in safety considerations. Essentially the Safety over IO-Link modules can be connected
to all IO-Link ports on a suitable PROFINET IO-Link master. If there are any restrictions for a
master module, these will be found in the corresponding manual for the Balluff IO-Link master.
Both safe sensors and actuators can be connected to the BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 module itself.
The states (input values) of the sensors are sent safely to the F-PLC and the connected
actuators are in turn controlled by the safety PLC.
