The device is a piece of equipment in accordance with EMC Class A. This device can produce
RF noise. The owner/operator must take appropriate precautionary measures against this for its
use. The device may be connected only using CE-conformal cables and operated only using
CE-conformal power supplies.
Function impairment
In the event of defects and device malfunctions that cannot be rectified, the device must be
immediately taken out of operation and protected against unauthorized use.
Intended use is ensured only when the housing is fully installed.
Access to the device
If access to the device represents security risks (e.g. by tampering), access must be prevented.
These measures must be taken by the user.
Note
To make removal of the M12 connectors more difficult, there are corresponding M12
security clips (see Section Accessories on page 111). These may be attached both
to the safe I/O module as well as to the field devices having M12 connections.
Resistance to aggressive substances
NOTICE
Use in high-concentration, aggressive media
Use in aggressive media (e.g. chemicals, oils, lubricants/coolants in high
concentration, i.e. low water content) can result in failure of or damage to the BNI
modules.
► Use the device only in media which do not attack the material.
► Before using in aggressive media check the material resistance for application
compatibility.
Safe use of the I/O module

Contact with current carrying components will result in severe injury or
death.
► Turn off power to the device before working on it.
The BNI IOF-329-P02-Z038 is certified according to EN/IEC 61508:2011 and
EN/IEC 62061:2005 + A2:2015 up to SIL 3 or SIL CL 3. For single-channel use of the inputs or
when test pulses on the output ports are deactivated, only SIL 2 or SIL CL 2 can be achieved.
In accordance with EN ISO 13849-1:2015 the device is certified up to PL e and Category 4. For
single-channel use of the inputs or when test pulses on the output ports are deactivated, only PL
d and Category 3 can be achieved.
Operation with single-channel input ports or deactivated test pulses on the output ports is
included in the certification.
