Overview of operation

The refrigerant recovered from the ACS equipment is
passed through the filter drier (Fig. 27, Pos. 2) to
remove suspended particles and moisture. The vacuum
pump (Fig. 22, Pos. 2) is used to vacuum the vehicle
A/C system and also to check for possible leaks in the
vehicle A/C system. The used oil bottle mounted at the
front panel is used to collect the used oil discharged
from the vehicle A/C system. Oil from the fresh oil bot-
tle is used to replenish the compressor oil in the vehicle
A/C system through the oil charge hydraulic circuit. UV
dye from the UV dye bottle is fed into the vehicle A/C
system to detect leaks in case of damage to the vehicle
A/C system. The refrigerant in the refrigerant tank is
used to charge the refrigerant to the vehicle A/C sys-
tem. The air purge assembly, comprising of the temper-
ature sensor, pressure sensor, solenoid and silencer is
used to purge the non-condensable gases whenever the
tank pressure is higher than the saturation pressure

Overview of operating phases
The ACS 651/751 can be operated in automatic mode
or manual mode. In either of the modes, the vehicle A/C
service is carried out in the following phases:
R
Recovery phase:
Refrigerant is recovered from the vehicle, cleaned
and stored in the refrigerant tank.
R
Vacuum phase:
A vacuum is generated in the vehicle A/C system and
the system is checked for leaks.
R
Oil recharge phase:
Oil is fed into the vehicle A/C system.
R
UV recharge phase:
UV dye is fed into the vehicle A/C system.
R
Refrigerant recharge phase:
A specified quantity of the refrigerant is fed back
into the vehicle A/C system.

ACS 651/751 operating modes
The software in the ACS 651/751 provides the following
possibilities for performing vehicle A/C service:
R
Automatic mode - In the automatic mode, all the
phases in the A/C service are executed in sequence
automatically.
R
Manual mode - In the manual mode, only the selected
phase is executed. For example, upon selecting
"Recovery", only the recovery phase will be executed.
6.3.1
ACS 651 service options
The ACS 651 software offers two options for perform-
ing the service - quick service and precision service.
R
Quick service - Usually, the recovery phase is the
longest phase in vehicle A/C service. In quick ser-
vice mode, it is possible to reduce the duration of
recovery. However, there is no compromise on the
quality of the service. Quick service can be used for
recovering refrigerant from vehicle A/C systems that
are damaged.
R
Precision service mode: In the precision mode the
recovery time is not reduced. The time taken for the
vehicle A/C service in precision mode is more than
the time taken for service in the quick mode. Preci-
sion service is compliant with the SAE J2788 stan-
dard.
R
OE specific service - This mode of service includes
recommended program sequences by certain OEMs
specific to their vehicle brands. Refer to chapter 6.13
for the description of OE specific service.
However, vehicle service using any of the service op-
tions - precision, quick or OE specific service - have to
be executed either in automatic or manual mode.
