Repair
■
Only start the engine in the horizontal posi-
tion.
■
Do not tilt the machine so far to the side that
fuel runs out of the fuel tank cap.
■
Check the oil level.
■
Tie up long hair and remove jewellery.
■
Do not wear loose clothing.
■
Wear sturdy, non-slip shoes.
■
Do not change the basic setting of the engine
or over-rev.
■
Keep the safety distance when starting.
■
Switch off the engine and allow to cool down
before removing the tank cap.
■
Switch off the engine, allow it to cool and re-
move the spark plug cable before checking,
cleaning or working on the machine or en-
gine.
■
Wait until the engine has cooled down suffi-
ciently before touching the cylinder ribs and
protective housing.
■
Do not rotate the engine without a spark plug.
5.1
Starting and stopping the engine (01,
08)
NOTE Observe the operating instructions
for the lawnmower.
NOTE The engine has a fixed gas setting.
Speed control is not possible.
Starting the engine
CAUTION! Risk of injury! Danger of kick-
back: The starter cable can return faster to the
engine than the cable can be released.

Anticipate a sudden jolt when the starter ca-
ble has been pulled.
NOTE
■
Use of the primer is not necessary for restart-
ing an engine that has already run warm.
■
Press the primer button (01/6) or (08/6)
3x, at intervals of approx. 2 seconds. At
temperatures below 10°C, press the
primer button 5x.
■
Pull the starter cable (01/4) or (08/4) out
briskly, and then allow it to wind back in
slowly.
With the engine running:
■
Keep your hands and feet away from any ro-
tating parts.

Keep flammable objects from the exhaust
and the cylinder area.
■
Allow the exhaust, cylinder and cooling vanes
to cool down before contact.
Switching off the motor
■
Observe the operating instructions for the
lawnmower.

Repair work may only be carried out by AL-
KO service centres or authorised specialist
workshops.
■
Only original spare parts from AL-KO are al-
lowed.
7 MAINTENANCE AND CARE
WARNING! Risk of injury. Inadvertent
switching on of the engine can lead to serious in-
juries.

Before setting, maintenance and repair work,
always switch off the engine and secure
against being switched on again.
■
Regular maintenance is essential for safety
and maintaining performance.
■
Observe the maintenance schedule.
■
For use under more demanding conditions,
more frequent maintenance is required.
1. Before all maintenance and cleaning work:
Remove spark plug connector (01/5) from the
spark plug.
2. Perform the maintenance and cleaning work
described in this section according to the
maintenance schedule.
3. After maintenance and cleaning work: Reat-
tach the spark plug connector(01/5) to the
spark plug.
7.1
Tilting the engine (07, 14)
1. Tilt the engine so that the spark plug (07/1,
14/1) is facing upwards.
7.2
Cleaning the air filter (05, 12)

Clean the air filter regularly.
■
Replace the air filter if damaged.
