Functional description

Both instruments are function generators with a frequency range up to 2 MHz on the
MXG-9802 A and up to 10 MHz on zhe MXG-9810 A. In addition both instruments
can be operated as frequency counters with a measurement range up to 2.7 GHz.
In addition to the usual functions of a function generator there is the possibility to
adjust offset and symmetry. Additionally, a sweep facility is built in, in which the
sweep rate and width are continuously variable.
The frequency counter has two inputs: Cannel „A" on which up to 20 MHz at 1
MOhm can be measured and channel B"B on which measurements up to 2.7 GHz at
50 Ohm are possible.
The frequency indication of the generator or counter is via red 8-digit LED display.
General, basic setting

General

1. Connect the earthed power cable to a properly-earthed AC power socket making
sure the plug is inserted firmly.
The protective earth wires in the instrument and in the AC supply
must be continuous, because a broken earth wire can endanger
life.
2. Operate the power on / off switch (4).
1. When signal sources with BNC outputs are to be connected to the function gene-
rator, this should always be done using a coaxial cable These leads are screened,
i.e. the inner signal-carrying wire is screened against interference signals by a brai-
ded outer of copper or tinned-copper wires. This „screen" is connected to the
chassis of the signal source and counter.
When signals on a circuit component or assembly are to be measured, the use a
coaxial cable for this, which has a BNC plug at one end and open wires at the
other equipped with crocodile clips.
