Setting the Probe Correction Value
Users can also enter the probe correction value
without an initial calibration
when changing probes, for example, if the cor
rection value for the probe to be used is already
known.
1.
In the "Probe" menu select the "Correction"
input box by pressing the key.
2.
Set the correction value (value range –15 %
to +15 %).
The
symbol in the top status bar will
disappear.

Calibration
1.
Position the drive unit such that the probe is
positioned correctly on the standard, i.e.
−
the stylus tip is vertical and
−
the entire traversing length is within the
field of defined roughness.
2.
In the "Probe" menu select "Calibrate
(PGN 3)" by pressing the key.
If the standard JIS or MOTIF is set,
i
it will automatically switch to ISO
now.
The cutoff Lc = 0.800 mm with tra
versing length Lt = 5.600 mm will
be set automatically.
3.
Read the nominal Rz value (for ISO, JIS,
MOTIF) or the nominal Ra value (for ASME)
from the standard or the associated calibra
tion certificate and enter it in the "Nom. val."
input box.
27 The instrument settings cannot be modified if they are
blocked (see Section 3.5.2).

5.
Press the START key.
Three measurements are carried out auto
matically.
After each measurement, the calculated Rz
or Ra value is displayed.
After the 3rd measurement, the average of
the three measured Rz values or Ra values
is determined. This average is used to calcu
late a correction value.
•
If the correction value is in a range
defined by ±15 % it is accepted into
the instrument settings (display e.g.
"Correction 4 %").
The
symbol in the top status bar
will disappear.
•
If the correction value lies beyond the
above range, "Correction value > ±15"
is displayed.
Remedy: confirm the message by
pressing the 4 key. Check the measur
ing setup, the vertical alignment of the
stylus tip and the nominal Rz or Ra val
ue and repeat the calibration by press
ing START.
If repeated attempts to calibrate do not lead
to a viable result, the probe is probably defec
tive. It should be sent in to be tested.
