5.3.4 Clean the generating set and its retention container
Clean the inside and outside of the generating set regularly. Clean the generating set more frequently if it is installed in a densely
wooded area or in a corrosive atmosphere, or if it has been made dirty by dust or organic material (rotting leaves, moss, faecal
matter, etc.).
If the level in the retention container is too high, the generating set may be damaged beyond repair: check that
there is no fluid present before each start-up and clean as often as necessary.
Never wash the generating set with a high pressure cleaner.
Apply an anti-rust product to the damaged parts; any major scratches must be repaired (please contact your
CAUTION
nearest agent).
1.
Wash the outside of the generating set using water with a mild detergent added (e.g. car shampoo).*
2.
Rinse with fresh water to remove any trace of cleaning product.
3.
Open the top cover (A17) and the access door to the generating set (A18).
4.
Check that there is no fluid or debris in the retention container (A5: if necessary, pump the fluid into a suitable container.
Any fluids present in the retention container (rainwater, engine oil or fuel) must be recycled or disposed of according to the
local regulations in force.
5.
Close the top cover and the access door to the generating set.
* When cleaning the exterior, a cleaning foam may be used and wiped off using a soft, absorbent cloth. Stubborn stains may be
removed using a suitable solvent (white spirit or equivalent) and wiped off using a soft, absorbent cloth.
6 Transporting and storing the generating set
6.1
Transport and handling conditions
Before transporting the generating set, check that the bolts are correctly tightened, close the fuel tap (if fitted) and disconnect the
battery (if fitted). The generating set should be transported in its normal operating position; never lay it on its side. A pump unit
should be handled gently and brusque movements should be avoided. Ensure that the place where it is to be stored or used is
carefully prepared beforehand.
6.2
Storage conditions
1.
Close the fuel tap (A4).
2.
Drain the fuel using an appropriate container.
a)
Disconnect the fuel pipe downstream of the fuel filter (A16-C1).
b)
Open the fuel tap.
c)
Once the oil has been drained, reconnect the fuel filter pipe.
3.
Start the generating set and leave it running until it runs out of fuel.
4.
Replace the fuel filter element (see the section on Replacing the fuel filter) then close the fuel tap.
5.
With the generating set still warm, change the engine oil (see the section on Replacing the oil filter and changing the oil).
6.
Clean or replace the air filter (see. the section on Checking the condition of the air filter).
7.
Disconnect the battery.
8.
Clean the outside of the generating set, apply a rust protection product to the damaged sections and cover it with a
protective cover to protect it from dust.
9.
Store the generating set in a clean, dry place.
This procedure for storing the generating set or protecting it over the winter must be respected if the generating set is not used for a
period of between 6 months and 1 year. For longer periods of storage, it is recommended to contact your nearest agent or to start
up the generating set for a few hours every year, and respect the storage procedure after doing so.
