Under no circumstances use starter batteries, because when deeply discharged
these become permanently damaged after only a few cycles.
If lead batteries are to be used, then so-called traction batteries are recommend-
ed. These batteries are designed for average depths of discharge of 80% per cy-
cle.
So-called marine batteries can also be used. For these battery types, the charge
level should not fall below 50%. Batteries of at least 400 Ah hours are therefore
recommended.
The available battery capacity is significant for the calculation of running times and
ranges. This is stated in Watt hours [Wh] below. The Watt hour value can easily be
compared with the motor's stated input powers in Watts [W]:
The Cruise 10.0 has an input power of 10,000 W.
During one hour at full throttle, it consumes 10,000 Wh.
If you use the system with only 2 Torqeedo Power 26-104 batteries, then it is regu-
lated to a maximum input power of 7,000 W.
The rated capacity of a battery [Wh] is calculated by multiplying the charge [Ah] by
the rated voltage [V]. A 12 V, 100 Ah battery therefore has a rated capacity of 1,200
Wh.
For lead/acid, lead gel, and AGM batteries, the rated capacity calculated in this way
is not fully available. This is because of the limited high current capability of lead
batteries. In order to counteract this effect, the use of larger batteries is recommend-
ed. For lithium-based batteries, this effect is negligible for practical purposes.
For the expected ranges and running times, in addition to the boat type's actually
available battery capacity, the selected power step (low running time and range at
higher speed) and for lead batteries, the external temperature play a significant role.
It is recommended to use larger batteries, rather than connecting several batteries in
parallel.
This helps to:
Reduce safety risks when interconnecting batteries.
Counteract negative effects on the entire battery system (loss of capacity, so-
called "drift") caused by interconnection, or capacity changes which arise over
time between batteries.
Reduce losses at the contact points.

When charging batteries, ensure that galvanically separated charger units are
always used. It is recommended to provide one charger unit for each battery.
Your specialist dealer will certainly be able to assist you in your selection. During
charging, put the main switch of the cable set to the Off position. This helps to
prevent electrolytic corrosion.

As soon as a battery fails, it is recommended also to replace the other batteries.
