The unit can detect extremely weak A/C source and
hence an apparent false reading may be seen in some
situations. This would occur when a conductor with poor
insulation touching a damp wall and will show a voltage
on the wall. The unit will then indicating a potential ha-
zard which should be checked with a voltmeter and as-
king an electrician.
Note:
Some wall may contain metallised fibre for fireproofing,
this will trend to spread the area of voltage pick up. Pla-
cing your hand on the wall may cancel the effect.
Rubbing or banging the detector on the wall may gene-
rate static electricity and will cause a false reading.
6. Maintenance
Wipe the unit with a damp cloth occasionally. Do not use
harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents
to clean the unit.
Use a fresh battery of the recommended size and type.
Always remove an old or weak battery. It can leak
chemicals that destroy electronic circuits.
Keep the unit dry. If it gets wet,wipe it dry immediately.
Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode electronic
circuits.
Use and store the unit only in normal temperature
environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life
of electronic devices and distort or melt plastic parts.
Handle the unit gently and carefully. Dropping it can
damage the circuit boards and cause the unit to work
improperly.
When the unit is not in use, cover the damp electrodes
by the protective cap.
