Since any given m et al will respond wit h it s own charact erist ic phase shift , it will be possible t o
dist inct bet ween t hem . The process of dist inguishing bet ween different m et als is called
discrim inat ion.

As m ent ioned earlier, soils t hat cont ain iron will produce a r esponse signal which can be a lot
st ronger t han t he signal produced by a m et allic obj ect concealed in it . This is also t he case for
places where gr ound wat er cont ains a lot of dissolved salt .

How ev er, t he phase shift caused by t he gr ound, t he gr ound effect , r em ains fairly const ant ov er a
lim it ed area when t he sear ch head is k ept at a st eady height .

Accurat e gr ound balance m ak es it possible t o precisely pin- point t he locat ion and dept h of an
obj ect .
7 . Pr epa r a t ion
•
The CS1 3 0 com es fully m ount ed. Car efully unpack it .
•
Loosen t he locking nut [ F] and slide t he lower shaft [ G] out of t he upper shaft [ E] unt il t he
desired lengt h is reached.
N ot e : t he coils' wiring runs inside t he st em . Do not for ce t o avoid dam age.
•
To det erm ine t he ideal shaft lengt h, st and upright holding t he m et al det ect or by t he handle [ B]
and your arm on t he ar m r est [ A] . When holding your arm r elaxed next t o y our body , t he search
coil [ I ] should be about ½ " t o 2" ( m ax.) ( 1.5~ 5cm ) abov e t he gr ound.

Turn t he locking nut [ F] count er clockwise ( t op view) t o secure t he low er shaft .
•
Loosen t he search coil knob [ H ] , adj ust t he search coil [ I ] so it is parallel t o t he gr ound and
t ight en t he nut knob.
•
I nsert t he bat t ery ( see §14) .
8 . Oper a t ion
•
I t is st rongly advised t o t est t he det ect or at hom e befor e going int o t he field. Perform t est s wit h
different m et als e.g. coins, golden ring, silver spoon...
Per form indoor t est s by placing t he det ect or on a wooden or plast ic t able, search coil [ I ]
o
facing t he ceiling and slowly m oving a m et al obj ect over t he coil. Be sure not t o w ear
j ewellery as t hese will influence t he r eading. Hold t he m et al obj ect under differ ent angles
while m oving across t he coil and not ice t he difference in det ect ion. Not e t hat t he volum e will
increase quickly as t he m et al obj ect passes direct ly in front of t he sear ch head, wit h t he
loudest signal occur ring when t he sear ch head is cent r ed im m ediat ely over t he m et al obj ect .
As t he obj ect passes beyond t he search head t he signal will quickly fade.
N ot e : Nev er t est t he det ect or on a floor inside a building. Most buildings have m et al of som e
kind in t he floor, which m ight int erfer e wit h t he obj ect s y ou're t est ing or m ask t he signal
com plet ely.
The search coil will not det ect wit hout m ot ion. You m ust m ov e t he obj ect since you ar e
not sw eeping wit h t he det ect or at t his t im e.
I f t he det ect or does not det ect t he m at erial, check t he bat t ery pow er and verify t hat t he
search coil is properly connect ed.
Also per form out door t est s t o learn t he influence of t he soil t ype on t he det ect or and t o
o
pract ise ground balancing. Place a m et al obj ect on t he gr ound and slowly sweep t he search
coil [ I ] ov er it . Be car eful when using valuable m et als for out door t est ing – m ake sur e you
can always r et riev e t hem .
•
Swit ch on t he det ect or by t urning t he VOLUME but t on [ 2 ] clockwise. To swit ch it off, t urn t he
but t on count er clock wise unt il it clicks.
•
When desired, plug a headphone ( not included) wit h a 3.5m m plug int o t he headphone j ack [ 4 ] .
•
Set t he speaker ( or headphone) sound level using t he volum e but t on [ 2 ] .
•
When t he low bat t ery indicat ion [ 1 ] light s up, r eplace t he bat t eries t o ensure det ect ing accuracy.
•
Set t he DI SC but t on [ 5 ] about halfway.
