5. Control unit

5.1. Switching on the system

If the two drive wheels have been correctly switched to electric motor operation as
described in chapter 2.1, you can switch on the system using the control unit. It is
imperative that you do not touch the joystick [16] when switching on the system.
If you do, you will get an error message.
• Press the On/Off button [18] briefly. The system is switched on, the On/Off button [18]
lights up green and the LEDs on the display [19] indicate the capacity of the battery
pack (see chapter 4.4).
• If you are not yet familiar with the Erivo and its travel characteristics, you should
start by reducing the maximum speed to a minimum (position A) using the button [18]
(see chapter 5.5).
• You can now use the joystick [21] to set the two Erivo wheels in motion. However, make
sure you read the safety instructions and hazard information in chapter 3 beforehand.
• If the wheels do not move when switched on, the system will automatically switch
itself off after 10 minutes.
There could be an error present if it is not possible to start a trip
after you have switched on the system. Chapter 6 contains a list of
these with error codes.

5.2. Switching off the system

Once you have completed your trip and you will not be using your wheelchair for a pro-
longed period of time, you should always switch off the Erivo. Firstly, this saves energy
and secondly, the Erivo is not inadvertently deployed by accidentally touching the joy-
stick.
• Press the button [18]. The control unit is switched off; the LED display [19] is no
longer illuminated.

5.3. Using the joystick to travel

The Erivo is moved using the joystick [16], by means of which the user can determine
the speed and the direction of travel.
The maximum speed to be reached is initially preset using the button [18]. Even
deflecting the joystick slightly in the desired direction of travel will then start travel at
low speed. This increases, the further the joystick is deflected. The maximum speed is
achieved by fully deflecting the joystick. When travelling in reverse, the speed is auto-
matically reduced for safety reasons.
Start your first travelling attempts at a low speed in order to accus-
tom yourself to the travel characteristics of the Erivo.
Adapt the speed to the respective travel situations. Reduce the max-
imum speed, particularly in difficult travel conditions and in indoor
use to prevent accidents.
Do not use the control unit for support as doing so could damage it.
Always use the armrest on the wheelchair for support, for assistance
with standing up or to adjust your seating position.
