Ensure that the tap 3 is absolutely
perpendicular.
Turn the tap wrench 4 slowly clockwise

using even pressure.
If necessary turn it backwards slightly to

break up the accumulated metal shavings.

note: Use cutting oil to reduce the friction
between the workpiece and the die 1 .

Determine the required thread.
Select the thread to match the bolt diameter.

This should be slightly smaller than the
nominal diameter of the thread (see table
below).

Slightly chamfer the leading edge of the
bolt. This will ease the work of cutting the
first threads.
Mount the selected die 1 in the die stock 2 .

Place the die 1 on the bolt to be cut.
j
Ensure that the arms of the die stock 2 are
at right angles to the bolt to be cut.
Turn the die stock 2 slowly clockwise using
j
even pressure.
If necessary turn it backwards slightly to
j
break up the accumulated metal shavings.

Cleaning and care

Remove metal shavings using a soft brush or

safety gloves.
Rub the dies 1 and taps 3 with an oily

rag if they are to remain unused for a long
period of time.
