1.2.2 Shaking Flasks and Special Containers

The shaking flasks are made of stainless steel or high-
purity PTFE, having different volumes:
1.
Shaking flasks made of high purity PTFE, with volumes
of 3, 5, 7 and 20 ml, available with caps or screw plugs.
2.
Shaking flasks made of stainless steel 1.4301
volumes of 3, 5 and 7 ml.
For details refer to Fig. 2 in section 3 of this manual.
A detailed of available shaking flasks is included in
section 4, "Technical Data, Ordering Information".
Other shaking containers, devices and corresponding
accessories for treatment of samples with a Mikro-
Dismembrator U are:
1.
Special holder for 20 ml shaking flasks,
cat.-no. 8531897. This holder will be used for the 20 ml
PTFE flask and for the special container for disposable
test tubes.
2.
Container for disposable test tubes, cat.-no. 8531889.
It can hold 3 disposable test tubes. For use only with
holder cat.-no. 8531897. Suitable test tubes are
disposable test tubes made of plastic for sample
volumes of about 2.2 ml, for instance.
3.
Container for 4 cryo test tubes, cat.-no. 8531960.
For use only with holder cat.-no. 8531897.
4.
Container for 4 reaction vials 2.0 ml. with standing rim
cat.-no. 8531944 (such as Bio-Rad Platelia)
Holder cat.-no. 8531897 required for using this
container
5.
Tray for micro well plates, cat.-no. 8531900.
For use with Mikro-Dismembrator U, only. It can hold
two micro well plates of 96 holes (8 columns of
12 holes).)
For details refer to fig. 4 and 5 in section 3 of this
manual.
More detailed information is included in section 4,
„Technical Data, Ordering Information".

The flasks and containers are designed according to the
requirements of the assays which follow the sample
treatment in the homogenizer. Such requirements are
the volume and design of the sample, as required for
spectroscopic or radiographic assays (standard volumes
of 5 ml) or the volumes for trace element analysis of
biological material (20 ml), for instance.
The homogenization method and the selection of
suitable accessories for the Mikro-Dismembrator U is
determined by the assay method applied after the
sample treatment, by the characteristics of the raw
sample (consistency, abrasivenes) and the characteristics
of the treated sample (consistency, fineness or
homogeneity).
Usually the user has to find out empirically which
combination of shaking flasks, grinding balls, process
materials (see information in the next chapter) and
operating parameters, will best suit the requirements.
The operating information below and the application
examples in section 5 and the literature references in the
supplement will give some examples. Information for
specific applications will be available on request.
