15. Replacing the battery


We recommend using high-quality alkaline batteries only.
For reasons of safety, replace batteries every 12 months. The "old" batteries can then be
used in non-critical devices (e.g. clocks, remote controls etc.).
a) Alarm dialler "AW50"
If the alarm dialler has set off the voice message "Battery empty", then replace all the batteries of the
alarm dialler with new ones.
To do this, open the battery compartment on the rear of the appliance, remove the spent batteries
and insert four new miniature (AA) batteries, observing correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-). Also pay
attention to the markings in the battery compartment. Close the battery compartment.
b) Smoke detector "RM50"
With conventional devices you only notice flat batteries because the device no longer functions (e.g.
with a radio or a remote control).

With such an important device such as a smoke detector, this could have fatal
consequences!
The smoke detector therefore emits a brief chirp sound (see section 13 c) and/or chapter 14) if the
battery level is too low, simultaneously with flashing of the indicator lights /LED.
Then replace the 9V compound battery by a new one immediately.
Proceed as follows to replace the batteries:
• Rotate the smoke detector in a counter clockwise direction and take it off the lower cup.
• Remove the spent battery from the battery compartment and release the battery clip from the
battery.
• Connect a new 9V compound battery to the battery clip of the smoke detector observing the correct
polarity and insert the battery into the battery compartment.
After inserting the battery, the red indicator light /LED flashes roughly every 32 seconds.
• Lock the smoke detector into the locking lug of the lower cup by rotating counter clockwise till the
smoke detector engages with an audible click.
For safety reasons, the housing cannot be locked without batteries!
