Abstract
If you are looking at the actual marketplace, you'll soon find out that there are a lot of
manufacturers who develop and publish different products in this category. How do you
know which one is the best? The answer is not simple. In fact the digital technique made
the huge number of products possible. That's why this thesis starts with an overview of
this technique. It needed time to develop the digitalization and reach the current level.
The digitalization afforded different audio formats. You can find compressed and lossless
formats. This has also consequences on the development of data medium too. The
storage capacity gets larger and the carrier itself gets smaller. That allows very tight
devices. A huge advantage is that there exist data carriers which feature no mechanically
moveable fragment. They are more robust. In the thesis there is the history of digital
carriers.
You can find different devices in distinct scopes. There is an overview of that in this thesis.
The area of the mobile audio devices is evaluated on the basis of expert interviews,
knowledge of the author and internet research. The main findings are:
- The costs are always an essential factor. If you buy a mobile audio device, you will
see the pricing in conjunction with the device at all times.
- The producer can't meet everyone's expectation. They just try to produce as
cheap as possible. Special requests cost a lot more.
- There is a new area between the professional and the consumer devices: the
prosumer area.
- The target group for the professional devices has decreased since the last 10 or
20 years.
- The ports and the integrated features inform the costumer if it's a professional
device or not.
