V brakes are extremely powerful rim arm brakes. Always use the appropriate amount of braking power. Get used to using
the V brake. Practise emergency braking until you are able to control the bike when braking more forcefully.
Adjusting the brakes
The distance of the brake lever to the handle bar grip can be adjusted via the grub
screw (1). We recommend carrying out
brake lever not adjusted could cause dangerous situations (e.g. overbraking).
Adjusting the Brakes
After a certain amount of time the brakes have to be adjusted due to the "sitting"
cables and the natural wear of the brake pads.
At the Brake Lever (above)
Loosen the locknut a and turn the adjusting screw b far enough for the brake pads
to be as near as possible (approx. 2mm) to the rim ensuring that they do not rub
the rim. Firmly tighten the locknut a again. After adjusting the brake lever it must be
checked whether, when pulling the handbrake, the brake pad in the V brake sits in
line on the brake flank (see page 76, Adjusting the V Brake).
Important Advice!
With the adjusting screw ➀ the brake lever must be adjusted close to the
handlebar, suitable for a child. Adjust the distance between brake lever and
grip in such a way that the brake lever rests between the middle finger joints.
We recommend that you have a specialist dealer adjust the brake.
Attention: A brake lever not adjusted to suit a child may lead to the locking
of the front wheel.
