1.9 Tail cap and tail rotor fairing
Thicken the tail cap on the inside if necessary (see upper fuselage fairing), and trim it to fit ex-
actly flush in the recess of the vertical stabiliser; it should rest firmly against the flange all round.
The tail cap is attached using six countersunk M2 screws, with the nuts glued on the inside.
Cut openings in the tail rotor fairing to provide clearance for the tail rotor and its control lever,
and trim it to fit neatly, resting in the support recess all round. The fairing is attached using three
2.2 x 6.5 mm self-tapping screws.
1.10 Installing the silencer
If you intend to use one of the recommended motors and the matching universal compact si-
lencer, we also recommend installing the silencer console (4450.149) which is available sepa-
rately. The console supports the silencer permanently against the chassis, making it much
easier to install and remove the mechanics for maintenance work. You will need to decide the
optimum console position to suit your installation. Extend the silencer tail pipe using a suitable
piece of silicone tubing, and run it to the outside through an opening in the fuselage, keeping the
hole as small as possible.
1.11 Fitting out the cockpit, installing the glazing panels etc.
Trim the cockpit floor (A18) to fit: it should lie on the bulkhead framework with its front edge
resting against the nose bulkhead (A1). Glue the locating tongue (A23) to the underside of the
cockpit floor (A18) so that it engages in the slot in the nose bulkhead (A1). Glue the two spruce
strips to the rear edge of the cockpit floor as shown in the drawing, so that the rear cockpit
panel (A19) fits between them. The rear panel can now also be trimmed to fit; slip the bottom
edge between the strips on the cockpit floor (A18), then swivel it forward to the vertical position.
Remove the cockpit components again, and glue the seat supports (A24) in place as shown in
the drawing. Sand these parts smooth and paint them matt light grey.
Trim the instrument panel to fit in the top section of the instrument binnacle, and glue it in place;
this assembly can then be glued centrally to the plinth, with the instrument panel directly behind
the angled surface at the top of the plinth. Paint the instrument binnacle matt black, apply the
instrument panel decal, and glue the assembly centrally to the cockpit floor, butting up against
the strips (A27) at the rear.
