Troubleshooting
Different status information and error messages are shown on the display.
PC Remote Control
This message appears when the instrument is switched on with no probe connected or when the
probe is damaged or not correctly connected. During this operational condition, the automatic
switch-off function is deactivated. Switch off the gauge by pressing the On/Off key.
No measurement possible
This message comes up if the probe has changed while a file was open. Close this file and
proceed.
Batteries empty
Preferably replace flat batteries immediately to avoid battery leakage. Mind the polarity. Replace
the batteries within 20 seconds to preserve your data in direct mode. In data file mode, all data will
also be kept without batteries.
Probe too close to metal
This message comes up if the probe was too close to metal when being powered on. During this
phase, some internal comparative measurements are carried out and therefore, the probe must
not be close to metal at this time. Make sure to keep the probe away from metal when being
powered on. If this message still comes up, this may be an indication for a damaged probe.
Magnetic interfering field
There are strong magnetic fields near by the gauge (e. g. from transformers, mains adaptors,
induction furnaces, etc.) Use the gauge in an environment without interfering fields. If this
message still comes up, this may be an indication for a damaged probe or gauge.
Probe defective
This message indicates a damaged probe. The probe and the gauge should be sent to PCE
Instruments for repair.
Other Errors
- the gauge does not measure anymore
- the readings are implausible
- the keys are locked
- the gauge cannot be switched on or off
In these cases, normally a total reset provides remedy (see chapter 12).
Do the following:
- remove the batteries for a short time and re-insert them
- perform a total reset (switch off the gauge, keep On/Off and ESC keys pressed, switch on the
gauge using the On/Off key; you will hear a longer lasting beeptone)
- possibly, the batteries have to be replaced
