Maintenance
Indications:
The roller bearings in the pulleys and tension pulleys have been permanently lubricated. The gear mechanism is filled with oil.
Danger
Lead/acid batteries produce explosive gases. Keep sparks, open flames and smokables away from the battery. When working near
batteries, always wear eye protection.
Battery Care (Fig. B12)
If there is a problem starting the engine even though the start functions and the battery connections are clean and snug, there might
be a charging problem with the battery. Have the battery checked by specialists or charge the battery with the charging device.
If the engine should not start immediately, do not prolong the starting process because this could damage the battery or starter.
Check the ignition and petrol line and remedy any fault there might be.
The battery should always be kept clean.
If the surface of the battery is covered with dirt or grease, it should be removed for cleaning. Clean the battery with a solution of
backing powder and water. Brush it off, without unscrewing the cells so that the cleaning agent will not get in.
Allow the cleaning solution to take effect for a few minutes, rinse it away with clean water and then let dry. If the battery poles are
oxidised, rub them down with a steel brush and treat with kerosene.
Danger
When installing the battery, be sure to put it back in the same position and that the cables are fit snugly (RED = positive pole /
BLACK = negative pole). Taking good care of the battery will increase its service life. If the battery ever has to be replaced, use
the same type of battery with the same dimensions.
Danger
Always disconnect the negative cable (BLACK) first. If the positive cable is disconnected first, electric discharges may occur if the
wrench touches any metal parts. Make sure that the battery holder has no contact with the battery poles.
Danger
Always connect the positive cable (RED) first. If the negative cable is connected first, , electric discharges may occur if the wrench
touches any metal parts. Make sure that the battery holder has no contact with the battery poles.
Spark Plug Maintenance
Check the spark plug at regular intervals for any dirt and check the spark gap. The spark gap should be approx. 0.7 mm (see also
Instructions for the Engine).
Air Filter
Under normal operation, clean or replace the air filter every 25 operating hours. With especially dusty jobs, do so more frequently
(see also Instructions for the Engine).
