Getting into the pod
After taking off, remain upright and bend one leg backwards. This allows you to reach
the foot plate of the harness with your heel and tighten the pod by stretching your leg,
while at the same time sitting fully in the harness. Then you can also insert the other
leg into the pod.
When tensioning the pod after getting into it, make sure you don't get your foot caught
in the speedbar. An incorrectly attached or excessively long speedbar increases the
risk of getting accidentally tangled when tensioning the pod.
To make it even easier to bring the pod forwards after take off, you can use the stepin
loop. The bungee is located inside the pod, at the front right, next to the footplate. To
use it, simply step through the loop with your right foot before taking off. (see page 82)
Please note: a magnet on the top of the pod allows its complete closure in flight when
the legs are stretched out. You can even adjust its position to your harness settings.
Deploying the parachute
The parachute can be deployed with both hands, i.e. from the left and from the right,
and can be thrown in any direction. We recommend throwing it to the right side becau
se the Vbridle runs on the right side of the harness. Throwing in other directions is also
possible and also leads to a complete and safe reserve deployment.
Water ballast
The ARTUS was not designed to be flown with water ballast. A small amount (up to four
litres) can be placed in the storage compartment below the thighs.
Instruction
The ARTUS is not suitable for use in paragliding schools.
Towing
The ARTUS is suitable for towing. For questions on towing please contact your NOVA
dealer. Before take off, speak to the winch driver – especially if it is the first time you
have used the winch. It is essential you use a separate carabiner or tow release.
Acro/Aerobatics
The ARTUS is not suitable for acro.
Tandem flying
The ARTUS is not suitable for dual flying.
Care, repair and maintenance
Care
The ARTUS is made of durable materials and can withstand normal wear and tear. As
this is a lightweight product, we recommend that you handle the material with great
care. However, how the harness is treated is a major factor in how long it is usable.
Handle with care
Designed specially for hike & fly, this product is made from lightweight materials. For the
longest possible enjoyment, we recommend particularly careful handling of the equip
ment. We recommend regularly checking the harness for wear and damaged stitching.
If you notice any faults, we recommend contacting your NOVA service partner immedi
ately. If you find any faults in critical structural parts (straps, buckles, hang points) we
recommend you do not use the harness! Do not modify the harness! For repairs please
contact one of our approved NOVA service centres.
At least once a year, the harness should have a full inspection. Check all seams, straps
and buckles. This inspection can be combined with a parachute repack. If you have
deployed the parachute, we recommend inspecting the connecting strap and hang
points. This inspection should be performed by an approved NOVA service centre.
Minimise the unnecessary exposure of your harness to UV radiation. Avoid temperatures
of less than 20° C or more than 60° C. Protect it from moisture, salt water and acidic
or alkaline liquids. Look after it and store it as recommended.
