Drill Bit Sharpener Safety Warnings
WARNING: Bench mounted and other non-handheld power tools limit user
exposure to vibration but it is still important to be aware of vibration levels and stop
operating the tool if the vibration level causes discomfort. Take regular breaks when
operating the tool.
• ALWAYS wear appropriate personal protective equipment including eye
protection, ear defenders and respiratory protection.
• Grinding tools and accessories must be mounted, used and stored in compliance
with the manufacturer's recommendations.
• Use ONLY compatible replacement grinding wheels as stated in this instruction
manual. Attempting to use any other accessory or attachment is extremely
dangerous and could lead to serious injury or destruction of the device.
• DO NOT use any form of spacers or adapters in an attempt to make an incorrectly
sized grinding wheel fit your machine.
• Ensure that the grinding wheel is fitted correctly and securely before use. Run
the machine with the grinding wheel fitted, but without load, for a reasonable
time before attempting to sharpen drill bits. If excessive vibration occurs, stop
the machine, investigate and correct the cause before use. Seek professional
guidance if you are in doubt about how to set up or operate the machine safely.
• All replacement grinding wheels must be checked before installation. If a
wheel is damaged in any way, such as by being chipped, fractured, warped
or misshapen, DO NOT USE AND DISCARD. If you are unsure about whether a
grinding wheel is safe to operate, DO NOT USE AND DISCARD.
• Always ensure that grinding wheels are suitable to use. Check the expiry date on
the label. Grinding wheels CANNOT SAFELY BE USED beyond their expiry date.
DO NOT allow grinding wheels to become wet or contaminated with oil. If you
suspect that a wheel has degraded in storage, or if you are unsure about whether
its expiry date has passed, DO NOT USE AND DISCARD .

Before Use
WARNING: Ensure the tool is disconnected from the power supply before
attaching or changing any accessories or making any adjustments to the tool.
WARNING: ALWAYS handle drill bits with care and avoid touching the cutting
edges. Burrs and sharp edges may cause deep skin cuts. Drill bits become hot
during sharpening and can cause severe burns.
WARNING: This tool is suitable for sharpening twist drill bits ONLY. Masonry, lip
and spur, auger, flat and step drill bits and router cutters can NOT be sharpened
with this device.
• Place the sharpener on a sturdy, even surface and connect the plug to the power
supply.
• Clean drill bits prior to sharpening, to remove dirt, grease and cutting fluids. Drill
bits must be completely dry.
Adjusting the grinding wheel
Note: Depending on the drill bit you may need to adjust the height of the
Grinding Wheel (8).
1. Turn the Adjustment Knob (5) clockwise to raise the Grinding Wheel.
• Raising the Grinding Wheel will lead to a more aggressive cutting action.
• When sharpening short drill bits, it may be necessary to raise the
grinding wheel.
2. Turn the Adjustment Knob anti-clockwise to lower the Grinding Wheel.
• Lowering the Grinding Wheel will lead to a finer ground edge.
• Fine grinding may take longer and can require additional repetitions.
• When sharpening long drill bits, it may be necessary to lower the
Grinding Wheel.
Operation
WARNING: ALWAYS wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing
protection, as well as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.
Switching on and off
WARNING: Always disconnect from the power supply after use.
1. Connect the plug to the power supply.
2. Toggle the On/Off Switch (1) to the 'I' position to start the machine.
3. Toggle the On/Off Switch to the 'O' position to stop the machine.
Drill bit sharpening
WARNING: The drill bit becomes very hot whilst sharpening. DO NOT touch the
tip after sharpening.
1. Match the size of the drill bit with one of the Drill Bit Guide Holes (4) in the
Grinding Wheel Cover (2).
2. Switch the machine on (see 'Switching on and off').
3. Insert the drill bit into the appropriate hole (Fig. A).
4. Exert slight downward pressure on to the drill bit and move it back and forth by
about 20° for approximately 20 seconds.
5. Switch the device off and remove the drill bit from the machine.
6. Examine the drill bit to check whether it has become too hot during sharpening
(see 'Troubleshooting'). Consider adjusting the Grinding Wheel (8) height if the
sharpening result is not satisfactory (see 'Adjusting the grinding wheel').
7. Repeat steps 1-6 to sharpen the other side of the bit. Use the same technique
and amount of time to achieve an even sharpening result.
8. Examine the drill bit and ensure both cutting edges are evenly proportioned
and shaped, that the point is centred and that the trailing edge is free of burrs
(Fig. B).
9. If the drill bit is not suitably sharpened repeat steps 1-8 as required.
Note: If sharpening a broken off or very dull bit, first use a bench grinder to roughly
shape the drill bit.
