• Before changing the measuring range, the current jaw is to be re-
moved from the object being measured (current rail, conductor,
etc.).
• Before each measurement, check the measuring instrument and
test leads for damage. Under no circumstances carry out mea-
surements when the protective insulation is damaged (torn, torn
away, etc.).
• During each current measurement avoid high humidity and
steam. While performing measurements the hands, shoes and
the floor must without fail be dry.
• To avoid electric shock, care should be taken that current rails
and connections (points of measurement) are not touched during
measurement, not even indirectly.
• Currents > 600 A will lead to damage to the current jaw. Take ca-
re that only one (1) single insulated cable (25 mm max. diameter)
is enclosed when making measurements. Measurement of multi-
core single-phase cables is not possible.
If, in contrast, two or more insulated cables (total diameter 25
mm max.) of a multiphase system are enclosed, then the value
indicated corresponds to the vector sum of the individual cur-
rents.
• The measuring instrument should not be used in areas or under
adverse environmental conditions in which inflammable gases,
fumes or dust are present or can occur. For your own safety it is
essential to avoid the measuring instrument or test leads beco-
ming damp or wet. Avoid operation in the immediate vicinity of
a) strong electromagnetic fields (loudspeakers or magnets)
22
b) electromagnetic fields (transformers, motors, coils, relays,
contactors, electromagnets, etc.)
c) electrostatic fields (charge/discharge) and)
d) transmission aerials or HF generators
• Do not use the current clamp shortly before, during or shortly af-
ter a storm (Lightning strike! High energy overvoltages!) Care
should be taken that hands, shoes, clothing, the floor, the mea-
suring device and test leads, switches and circuits etc. are abso-
lutely dry.
• If it can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible,
then the device must be switched off and protected against un-
intentional operation. It is to be assumed that safe operation is
no longer possible, if
- the unit shows visible signs of damage,
- the unit shows visible signs of damage,
- after prolonged storage under unfavourable conditions or
- after severe transportation stress.
• Never switch the measuring instrument on immediately after it
has been brought from a cold into a warm area. The resulting
condensation water could damage the instrument. Allow the unit
to come to room temperature before switching it on.

Introduction

This 3 1/2-digit current clamp is for AC currents even from approx.
10 mA up to 600 A max. Breaking into measured current circuits is
not required as with "conventional" multimeters (with test leads).
