Installation guideline

3.1.

Preparatory measures

The stove should be hermetically connect ed to a well- functioning chimney, suffi-
ciently enclosed to keep combustible m aterials (floor and walls) at a dist ance, and
should be installed in a room with sufficient ventilation.
Please inform about national or local norms and regulat ions concerning this subject.
Your distributor will give you t he necessary advice.
You can also consult the fire depart m ent and/ or an insurance com pany about spe-
cific dem ands or regulations.
Please read the technical specificat ions under cover in this manual before installing
the stove.
3.1.1. The chimney
The chim ney (t he flue) has a double function:
It draws air, that is necessary for good com bustion, into the stove.
It functions as an ex haust pipe for com bustion gases via therm al or natural
draught. Therm al draught is caused by the difference in heat between the air in-
and outside the flue. The heat ed air in the flue is lighter than the colder air out-
side the flue and consequently rises up, along with the com bustion gases. Natu-
ral draught is caused by environm ental phenomena, such as wind.
It is prohibited to connect several heaters to one chimney (for instance the central
heating boiler), unless local or national regulat ions allow this.
Please check which chim ney is to be used for the stove you purchased and whether
your chimney is appropriate for this specific usage. You should consider an ex pert's
opinion on this matter.
The chim ney should m eet the following conditions:
The flue should be m ade of fireproof m aterial. Ceram ic or stainless steel is re-
com m ended.
The chim ney should be airt ight and thoroughly cleaned and should guarantee a
sufficient draught (a draught or negative pressure of 15 t o 20 Pa is ideal under
normal circum stances).
It should run as vertically as possible. Changes in direction or horizontal seg-
m ents will disrupt the sm oke flow and m ay cause soot to accum ulat e inside the
flue (and clog t he flue!).
The chim ney's internal dim ensions m ust not be too large in order to prevent the
fum es from cooling off too m uch. For recom m ended chim ney dim ensions, see
the technical specification under cover. Larger dim ensions can be used if the flue
is well insulated.
The flue's diam eter should be the sam e throughout its whole length. Wider or
especially narrower segments will disrupt the sm oke flow and are best avoided.
The sam e is t rue for a cover plate or ex haust hood on top of the chim ney. The
ex haust hood m ust not narrow the chim ney's outlet and should be designed in a
way that wind will not hinder, but prom ote the sm oke flow.
