HDA 4000 ATEX, IECEx intrinsically safe, increased safety, for hydrogen applications - SIL 2 / PLd
24.2
Conditions of use when applied in potentially explosive a tmospheres

24.2.1 Specific Conditions of Use

a) The single leads and jacketed cables have to meet the requirements according to
EN 60079-14 (chapter 9).
b) The permitted ambient temperature range can be found in the operating instructions,
depending on its temperature type or depending on the surface temperature.
c) Pressure ports made of metal have to be considered for the local potential equalization.
d) For the pressure transmitter N variant (with integrated overload protection according to
DIN EN 61000-6-2) the 0 V of the intrinsically safe supply needs to be connected to ground
potential from the safety point of view. A potential equalization is required along the entire
intrinsically safe electrical circuit.
e) Heat re-circulation from the process, due to heat reflection of components in the system,
which exceeds the permitted ambient temperature of the pressure transmitter, is not
allowed. This can be avoided using a suited thermal insulation for the components
reflecting heat or by mounting the pressure transmitter at a greater distance (leaving a
cooling section).
f) The pressure transmitter's materials getting in contact with the fluids have to be resistant
against the used fluid.
g) For applications in Ex ia Ga/Gb (simultaneously used in Zone 0 and Zone 1) the pressure
transmitter has to be mounted in a way that installation is possible with a sufficiently tight
connection (IP 66 or IP 67) or a flameproof gap (IEC 60079-1) in the direction of the less
hazardous section.
h) For Ex ec Gc applications, the pressure transmitter has to be set -up in order to achieve
contamination level 2 or lower according to IEC 60664-1.
i) For Ex ec Gc applications, connecting or cutting the supply voltage is only allowed if there if
an explosive atmosphere can be excluded.
j) Operation is only permitted if operational and process-related intensive electrostatic
charges have been eliminated. The pressure transmitter has to be installed and operated in
a way that electrostatic charges, caused by operation, maintenance and cleaning, can be
excluded. For the application in potentially dust-explosive areas, process-related
electrostatic charge, i.e. due to fluids flowing past, has to be excluded.

24.2.2 Further Conditions of Use

e) The pressure transmitters applied according to Ex ia and Ex ic should always be operated
in combination with the suited intrinsically safe and linear barrier. (see safey information in
the EC type examination)
f) By adherence to safety guidelines in the protection types and applications: the usage of the
impact protection / metal safety sleeve is stringently required for Ex ec Gc applications with
the pressure transmitter. The impact protection/ metal safety sleeve must be tightened with
