b) Current measurement "A"
Never exceed the maximum permitted input values. Never touch circuits or parts of circuits when they may
contain voltages greater than 33 V/ACrms or 70 V/DC! Danger to life!
The maximum permissible voltage in the current measuring circuit must not exceed 250 V. Measurements
>5 A may only be carried out for max 10 seconds and only with a subsequent measuring pause of 15
minutes.
All current measurement ranges are provided with fuses and thus protected against overload.
Proceed as follows to measure DC voltages:
- Connect the red measuring lead into the 10 A measuring socket (6) for currents >200 mA or into the mA measuring
socket (7) for currents <200 mA. Connect the black measuring lead into the COM test socket (5).
- Select the desired measuring range. If possible, always start measuring with the largest measuring range, as the
fuse will blow if it is exceeded.
- Connect the two measuring probes in series with the measured object (battery, circuit, etc.); the respective polarity
of the measured value is shown on the display together with the current measured value.
A minus symbol indicates that the current is flowing in the opposite direction (or that the measuring leads
are connected with wrong polarity).
Never measure currents above 10 A in the 10 A range or currents above 400 mA in the mA/μA range,
otherwise the fuses will blow.
c) Measuring resistance
Make sure that all objects that you wish to measure (including circuit components, circuits and
component parts) are disconnected and discharged.
Follow the steps below to measure the resistance:
- S witch on the DMM and select the measuring function "Ω".
- C onnect the black measuring lead to the COM socket (5) and the red measuring lead to the mA/Ω socket (7).
- Check the measuring leads for continuity by connecting both probe tips to one another. The resistance value must
then be set to approx. 0.5 ohm (inherent resistance of the measuring leads).
- Connect the probe tips to the object that you want to measure. The measurement value will be indicated on the
display (provided that the object you are measuring is not highly resistive or disconnected). Wait until the display
stabilises. This may take a few seconds for resistances greater than 1 MΩ.
- A s soon as the "overflow" icon is displayed, you have exceeded the measuring range or the measuring circuit is
open.
- A fter measuring, remove the measuring leads from the measured object and switch off the DMM at the "POWER"
button (3).
When taking a resistance measurement, ensure that the points that come into contact with the probe tips
are free from dirt, oil, solder and other impurities. These substances may distort the result.
