Every 200 operating hours:*
– Change the oil filter.
– Replace air filter (paper element).
Every 300 operating hours:*
(annual inspection by an authorised
customer service centre)
– Clean combustion chamber.
– Check and adjust the valve play.
– Clean and grind the valve seat.
* or each season (whichever is
reached first)
The maintenance intervals depend
on the frequency of use and the
ambient conditions when the unit
is used. If the unit is very dirty or is
used very frequently, it may be
necessary to clean the engine and
its components more frequently
than indicated in the maintenance
schedule.
Checking the oil level
Always check the oil level before
using the unit. See "Preparing to
start the unit".

Changing the oil
Allow a cold engine to warm up
slightly. Warm oil flows better.
Place the unit on a level surface.
Place an adequately large
receptacle under the engine.
Unscrew the oil drain plug
(A/Fig. 8). Drain the oil into the
receptacle.
Screw in and tighten the oil drain
plug.
Pull out the dipstick.
Fill with oil, see "Preparing to start
the unit".
Changing the oil filter
Drain the oil, see "Changing the
oil".
Loosen and unscrew the old oil
filter by rotating it in an anti-
clockwise direction.
Apply a thin layer of fresh engine
oil to the flange of the new oil filter.
Screw in a new filter (A) until it
touches the housing (B) (Fig. 9).
Then rotate it a further
¾ revolution. Tighten by hand
only!
Fill with oil, see "Preparing to start
the unit".
Start the engine, leave running for
3 minutes and check for oil leaks.
Check the oil level and, if required
top up with oil.
Cleaning the air inlet
Before using the unit, always check
that the air inlet is free of grass and
deposits. A dirty air inlet will cause
the engine to overheat.
Do not spray the engine with water.
Do not use high-pressure or steam
cleaners.
Remove dirt with a brush or
compressed air.
Thoroughly clean the air inlet every
100 operating hours:
(Fig. 10)
Loosen bolts (F) and remove the
air inlet grille (A).
Loosen bolts (D, E) and remove
the fan housing (B).
Thoroughly clean the inner
compartment and fan. Also check
for damage.
Re-assemble in reverse
sequence. Tighten the bolts to
maximum torque according to the
following table:

Air filter
The maintenance intervals may have
to be reduced in a very dusty
environment.
To ensure that the engine has a long
service life, never operate the engine
without an air filter or with a very dirty
air filter.
