1) Donning: Hold the brace on both sides with the donning loops (1) and pull it over the knee
until the patella cutout is centered on the patella.
2) Positioning (see fig. 2): Place the patient's knee in a 20°-30° flexion position. Grasp the
patella carefully and guide the patella support (2) to the outer edge of the patella.
3) Clasping (see fig. 3): Hook the upper ratchet hook (3.1), with slight tension applied to the
spring elements (4), onto the ratchet strap (5.1). Hook the lower ratchet hook (3.2), with slight
tension applied to the spring elements (4), onto the ratchet strap (5.2).
INFORMATION: The maximum pre-tension is specified by a mark on the ratchet hook.
Apply the maximum amount of pre-tension by aligning the mark with the splint (10).
→ The patella support (2) lies against the outer edge of the patella.
4) Fastening (see fig. 4): The patella support is held in the upper and lower guide channels (8)
by the hook and loop guides (9). The hook and loop guides can be readjusted if necessary.
5) Functional check (see fig. 5): Carefully flex the knee to the degree approved by the attend
ing physician and extend it to check that the brace is working optimally and is positioned
properly.
→ Does it require adjustment? See 6 "Readjustment"
→ Is the brace positioned properly? See 7 "Shorten"
6) Readjustment (optional) (see fig. 6):
Readjusting at the front: The ratchet hooks can be unhooked from the ratchet straps and
readjusted.
Readjusting at the back: The hook and loop closures on the dynamic tension element (7.3)
can be moved medially or laterally. To do so, first move the two hook and loop straps that are
positioned one over the other as necessary. Then, readjust only the upper hook and loop
strap that is under tension (7.1) and limits realignment.
7) Shorten (see fig. 7): When shortening, note that every ratchet hook requires 2 ratchet straps.
Unhook the ratchet hooks from the ratchet straps and shorten the ratchet straps as necessary
to adapt them. Then round and de-burr the ends.
Tip: Count the number of ratchet positions while the hooks are hooked in and mark the point
to cut. Note that 2 ratchet straps are always required for each hook.
8) Final check: Repeat the functional check through careful flexion and extension within the
range approved by the physician. The brace can be readjusted at any time using the addition
al 2 pairs of holes in the patella support.
9) If necessary: Use the hook and loop points to attach the additional straps around the top and
bottom edges of the brace.
5.3 Application
NOTICE
Use of a worn or damaged product
Limited effectiveness
Before each use, check the product for functional reliability and for possible wear or dam
age.
Do not continue using a product that is no longer functional, or that is worn or damaged.
NOTICE
Use for contact sports
Impaired function of the brace components due to overloading
Inform the patient that the brace should not be used without the sports cover for sports
where there may be bodily contact with other persons.
1) Open the ratchet strap buckle (6).
2) Pull the brace on using the upper donning loops.
