4. Turn the control LEVEL/DEPTH slowly to the right to mix the effect signal to the master signal and to
simultaneously adjust the effect intensity. The Y-parameter is indicated on the display.
5. The effect time can be comfortably adjusted with the presets of the beat assignment buttons. The time
parameter is automatically synchronized to the beat and thus responds to the rhythm of the music.
• Make sure the BPM counter calculates the correct value. Actuate one of the beat assignment buttons
(the lighting of the LEDs already shows you one or more reasonable time parameters to choose from).
The X-parameter is indicated on the display.
• The time parameter of the effects ECHO, AUTO PAN, FLANGER, AUTO FILTER and (AUTO) TRANS
refers to the beat of a title. For these effects a value in beats can be adjusted.
• The time parameter of the effects MANUAL FILTER, REVERB and PITCH SHIFTER refers to the
overall beat. For MANUAL FILTER the cutoff frequency can be edited in kHz, for REVERB and PITCH
SHIFTER the reverb time and pitch can be adjusted in percent, respectively.
6. The control TIME can be used to produce even finer time settings. Turn the control to change the value
in increments of 1; press the control and turn it at the same time to change the value in increments of
100. The X-parameter is indicated on the display.
7. Press the button FX ON (LED lights orange), to blend in the effects signal to the respective channel
signal. The effect is deactivated by pressing the button FX ON once more (LED goes off).
The multi-effects unit is not available while in effect mix mode. To use the multi-effects, deactivate the
effect mix mode (selector switch EFFECTS MIX set to OFF).

7.3 Using an external effects unit

1. If you have connected an external effects unit to the EX-820, ready the signal by setting the control
EFFECTS SELECT to position SEND/RETURN.
2. Use the control INPUT SELECT to select the signal source to be looped through the external unit. The
source is indicated on the display and automatically counted by the BPM counter.
3. Press the button EFFECTS CUE to monitor the effect signal on your headphones.
4. Adjust the return level for the external effects unit with the control LEVEL/DEPTH. The Y-parameter is
indicated on the display.
5. The time parameter can be adjusted with the control TIME or the beat assignment buttons (see section
7.2).
6. Press the button FX ON (LED lights orange), to blend in the signal of the effects unit to the respective
channel signal. The effect is deactivated by pressing the button FX ON once more (LED goes off).

7.4 Using the effect mix function

In the effect mix fader mode, the crossfader can be operated to produce automatic linked fade-in and fade-
out sound from channel 1 to channel 2. For this function, the three effects ECHO, ZIP and ROLL are
available. Alternatively, in the effect mix auto mode, the three effect mix select/start buttons ECHO, ZIP and
ROLL can be used directly to produce automatic linked fade-in and fade-out sound. When two CD players
with contact control are connected to the EX-820 via the supplied control cables, they can be remote
controlled while operating the effect mix function.
The multi-effects unit is not available while in effect mix mode.
Selecting the effect mix function
