On safety
The L4000 system comprises the safety evaluation device UE401 to
which up to 4 (in cascade 8) L4000/L400 sender/receiver
combinations can be connected.
2.3
Correct use
The L4000 system is only allowed to be used in the context of chapter
2.2 "Applications of the device". It must be used only by qualified
personnel and only on the machine where it has been installed and
initialised by qualified personnel.
All warranty claims against SICK AG are forfeited in the case of any
other use, or alterations being made to the system – even as part of
their mounting or installation.

General safety information and protective
measures
Safety notes
Please observe the following procedures in order to ensure the
correct and safe use of the L4000 system.
• The national/international rules and regulations apply to the
installation, commissioning, use and periodic technical inspections
of the L4000 system, in particular
–Machine Directive
–Equipment Usage Directive
–the work safety regulations/safety rules
–other relevant health and safety regulations
• Manufacturers and users of the machine with which the L4000
system is used are responsible for obtaining and observing all
applicable safety regulations and rules.
• It is imperative that the test notes from page 93 of these operating
instructions ("Tests before the first commissioning", "Daily
functional checks of the protective device", "Regular inspection of
the protective device by qualified personnel") are observed.
• The tests must be carried out by specialist personnel or specially
qualified and authorised personnel and must be recorded and
documented to ensure that the tests can be reconstructed and
retraced at any time.
• The operating instructions must be made available to the user of
the machine where the L4000 system is used. The machine
operator is to be instructed in the use of the device by specialist
personnel and must be instructed to read the operating
instructions.
