The measurement area can be exceeded in the direction of the conveyor belt as
long as the edge is at least within 5 mm of the measurement area (see diagram).

measurement area
The edge must be clearly detectable, i.e., the height change must be greater than
the minimum height difference that the DMH detects (see the Technical Data).
Only negative height changes are detected.
The analog output is used for edge control. This transmits the path s to the spot
where the height change takes place as an analog value.
This software mode provides a differential measurement, i.e., height fluctuations of
the conveyor belt do not affect the calculation as long as they are within the mea-
surement area.
Note: With consideration of the Installation Instructions / Teach In conditions, a change
of edge height should also be taught in if only the analog output is used for an appli-
cation.
Shingle detection:
The height difference is not evaluated here, but instead the spot of the change of
edge height. The edge must be at least 5 mm within the measurement area.

The switching output is used for shingle detection. The switching output is activated
when there is a negative change of height after the taught-in path s.
This software variant provides a differential measurement, i.e., height fluctuations

Installation:
If the DMH is used for shingle detection, make sure that the DMH unit is mounted at
a scanning distance of 55 mm from the object with the smallest overlap elevation
(edge of device to edge of shingle).
Tolerance switch: Using the tolerance switch, you can select the tolerance of the edge
height difference:
Tolerance 1:
fine
Tolerance 2:
average
Tolerance 3:

The height information, height differences, filling levels, etc. are taught in using the
Teach In procedure. The line-shaped lighting is positioned visibly above the object of
which you want to teach in the height information.
The Teach In procedure can take several seconds depending on the selected soft-
ware variant.
We recommend teaching in the height information in the middle of the measurement
area, i.e., at a scanning distance of approx. 52 mm.
To confirm the Teach In procedure the laser light is briefly switched off.
The status indicator displays the status of the Teach In procedure:
If the Teach In procedure was successful, then the status indicator lights.
If the Teach In procedure has been completed successfully, then the switch is set to
Run / Run Delay and the sensor is ready to operate.
