For safety and certification (CE) reasons, unauthorised modifications and/or changes
to the product are not permitted.
The only voltage source that may be used is that of the correct mains socket-outlet
(230V/50Hz) with the protective earth conductor of the public supply system.
Devices operated using mains voltage must be kept out of the reach of children. Par-
ticular care must therefore be exercised if children are present.
In commercial premises, the accident prevention regulations of the relevant profes-
sional association must be complied with.
In schools, training centres, computer and self-help workshops, use of the product
must be supervised by trained personnel in a responsible manner.
Do not expose the power supply to high temperatures, strong vibrations or damp.
Operation is only permissible in dry indoor areas.

3. Functional description

The ATX switched-mode power supply unit converts mains voltage (230V/50Hz) into
the internal direct voltages required by PCs (+5V, +12V, -5V, -12V and in conformity
with the ATX standard also +3.3V).
An integral internal fan passes any excess heat generated during this conversion out
of the computer.
The product can be switched on and off using the mains power switch.
However, the computer does not start up immediately when the mains
switch is switched on. Both the power supply unit and the connected
motherboard are initially in "stand-by" mode. To start up the comput-
er, the power button on the front of the ATX housing must be pressed
briefly. The button must be connected via a cable to the appropriate
port on the PC's motherboard (e.g. ATX power port or similar, please
refer to the motherboard instructions).
When the computer is switched off using the power button, a stand-by
voltage is still present at the motherboard.
18
This voltage is required for switching the PC on via the keyboard or the
mouse, for example, (if the PC's BIOS facilitates this option) or for the
automatic switching on/powering up of a modem/ISDN calling/net-
work access (depending on the BIOS and software).
Therefore, if you wish to work inside the computer (e.g. to fit a new
plug-in card), always switch off the ATX power supply unit first using
the mains power switch on the ATX power supply unit, then isolate it
from mains voltage and pull out the mains plug

4. Control elements and connections

Fan
The fan blows excess heat outside the computer.
The slits and holes in the housing of the power supply unit must not be
covered over or sealed, as this could cause a build-up of heat inside
the power supply unit, which would destroy it.
Mains supply socket
First switch off the power supply unit (Position "O"). Using the supplied mains cable,
connect to a 230V/50Hz mains socket-outlet with protective earth conductor.
