g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection
facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust coll-
ection can reduce dustrelated hazards.
4) Power tool use and care
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was
designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power
tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from
the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or
storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of star-
ting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons
unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power
tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many
accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these
instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to
be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended
could result in a hazardous situation.
h) Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles do
not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.
5) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualiied repair person using only
identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool
is maintained.
Threading Machine Safety Warnings
Work area safety
● Keep loor dry and free of slippery materials such as oil. Slippery loors invite
accidents.
● Restrict access or barricade the area when work piece extends beyond
machine to provide a minimum of one metre clearance from the work piece.
Restricting access or barricading the work area around the work piece will reduce
the risk of entanglement.
Electrical safety
● Keep all electric connections dry and off the ground. Do not touch plugs
or tool with wet hands. These precautions will reduce the risk of electrical shock.
Personal safety
● Do not wear gloves or loose clothing when operating machine. Keep sleeves
and jackets buttoned. Do not reach across the machine or pipe. Clothing
can be caught by the pipe or machine resulting in entanglement.
Machine safety
● Follow instructions on proper use of this machine. Do not use for other
purposes such as drilling holes or turning winches. Other uses or modifying
this power drive for other applications may increase the risk of serious injury.
● Secure machine to bench or stand. Support long heavy pipe with pipe
supports. This practice will prevent machine tipping.
● While operating the machine, stand on the side where the FORWARD/
REVERSE switch is located. Operating the machine from this side eliminates
the need to reach over the machine.
● Keep hands away from rotating pipe and ittings. Stop the machine before
wiping pipe threads or screwing on ittings. Allow the machine to come to
a complete stop before touching the pipe. This practice will reduce the chance
of entanglement in rotating parts.
● Do not use this machine to install or remove ittings, it is not the intended
use of the machine. This practice could lead to trapping, entanglement and loss
of control.

1. Technical data

Use for the intended purpose
Use REMS Tornado and Magnum thread cutting machines for the intended purpose of thread cutting, cutting off, removing burr, cutting nipples and roller grooves.

● Keep covers in place. Do not operate the machine with covers removed.
Exposing moving parts increases the probability of entanglement.
Footswitch safety
● Do not use this machine if the footswitch is broken or missing. Footswitch
is a safety device that provides better control by letting you shut off the motor in
various emergency situations by removing your foot from the switch. For example:
if clothing should become caught in the machine, the high torque will continue
pulling you into the machine. The clothing itself can bind around your arm or
other body parts with enough force to crush or break bones.

Additional Safety Warnings

● Wear ear and eye protection.
● Only connect the machine to a socket with a functioning PE conductor. Check
the PE conductor or have it checked if in doubt.
● Only operate the machine on the mains with a 30 mA fault current protection
(FI-switch).
● If the extension cable needs to be replaced, this may be done only by qualiied
personnel to avoid safety risks.
● The machine is operated with a safety-type, jog control pedal switch with
emergency-off function. If the danger area constituted by the rotating workpiece
is not clearly visible from where the operator is located, safety precautions, e.g.
barriers, must be used.
● Do not undertake any operations such as hemping, installation and removal,
thread cutting with manual die stocks, working with pipe cutters or holding the
workpiece manually, instead of using the material supports, when the machine
is operating.
● If there is a risk of the workpiece bending and whipping round (this depends on
the length and cross-section of the material and on the speed) or at insuficient
stability of the machine a suficient number of height-adjustable supports (REMS
Herkules) must be used.
● Never reach into the chuck.
● Clamp short pieces of pipe only with the REMS Nippelspanner or the REMS
Nippelix.
● REMS thread-cutting oils in spray cans (REMS Spezial, REMS Sanitol) are
environment-friendly but contain combustible propellant (butane). Spray cans
are pressurized – do not force open. Also, protect them from exposure to strong
sunlight and heating above 50°C.
● Due to the degreasing effect of the cooling lubricants (thread-cutting oils), an
intensive skin contact has to be avoided. A skin protector with a greasing effect
must be applied.
● Due to hygienical reasons the trough has to be cleaned regularly from dirt and
chips, at least, however, once a year.
NOTICE
● Do not allow undiluted cooling lubricant to get into drainage, water systems or
the soil. Remaining cooling lubricants have to be delivered to specialized waste
disposal companies. Disposal identity number for mineral-based cooling lubricants
54401, for synthetic 54109.
