Connecting the parachute to the harness
The parachute can be connected to the bridle of the harness/front container in
two different ways – either by using a carabiner/maillon or by using a clove hitch
or lark's foot.
Using a carabiner
An additional steel screw carabiner is required for the connection of the
parachute to the bridle of the harness/front container. We recommend using oval
carabiners with a minimum breaking load of 2500 daN. The Maillon Rapide
Normal has been proven to have a sufficiently high breaking load (depending on
the diameter).
The harness connecting line and parachute bridle should be secured into place
with rubber O-rings, insulation tape, or a neoprene sleeve. Close and correctly
tighten the maillon gate with an adjustable spanner. To do this, follow the
instructions of the maillon manufacturer.
Please note:
Under transverse loading, the maillon loses 50% strength. Webbing
and bridles must always rest in their full width on the screw carabiner/maillon. In
addition, do not over-tighten the gate with the spanner. This could lead to
damage to the thread and may reduce the maillon's breaking load.
Using a clove hitch or lark's foot
As an alternative to the procedure described above, a parachute with a bridle with
a sufficiently large loop (e.g. NOVA PENTAGON or PENTAGON light) can also be
connected to the harness using a clove hitch or lark's foot. This is done by passing
the parachute bridle through the eye of the connecting line on the harness. Then
the parachute is threaded through the loop of the bridle and the resulting hitch is
tightened and secured against slipping with insulating tape.
Please note:
With this connection method, care must be taken to ensure the
loops are symmetrical! Under tension, all individual strands running to the
knot must be equally loaded! Badly executed knots can make the rescue
system less effective.
