Magnetic Tape – Magnetic Encoder System

Installation (continued)
4.3
Fastening the magnetic tape
NOTICE
Improper installation
Improper installation can compromise the function of the
magnetic ring and result in damage.
► Keep magnetized parts away from the tape to rule
out the formation of defective areas that could result
in non-linearity or malfunction.
► Attach the tape to the mounting surface parallel to
the direction of travel and completely level. Wavy or
skewed tapes will affect the measuring accuracy.
► To prevent undefined non-linearity, never stretch or
compress the tape.
► Once glued in place, a tape should not be removed
(even partially). Strong non-linearity can be expected
from any point which has been lifted.
Note the following when fastening the tape:
Ambient conditions
–
For optimum bonding conditions, we recommend an
ambient temperature of 0 to 40°C.
–
Thoroughly remove any oil, grease, dust, etc. (use
acetone or similar) from the mounting surface of the
tape and allow to dry completely.
Tape alignment
–
The arrow printed on the tape must point in the same
direction as the arrow on the part label of the sensor
head (see Fig. 4-1 and Fig. 4-2 on page 12).
–
Tapes with a reference track have the first reference
point visually marked.
–
The coding of the tape must match the coding of the
sensor head.
