MECHANICAL INSTALLATION
7.1
Important precautions during installation
S
Handle the transducer with care.
S
Note the requirements for the force application parts stated in the following sections
of this manual.
S
Welding currents must not be allowed to flow over the transducer. If there is a risk
that this might happen, you must use a suitable low-ohm connection to electrically
bypass the transducer. HBK provides the highly flexible EEK ground cable for this pur
pose, for example, that is screwed on above and below the transducer.
S
Make sure that the transducer cannot be overloaded.
WARNING
There is a danger of the transducer breaking if it is overloaded. This can cause danger for
the operating personnel of the system in which the transducer is installed.
Implement appropriate safety measures to avoid overloads or to protect against the re
sulting dangers. The maximum possible mechanical stresses, especially the breaking
force, are stated in the specifications.
During installation and operation of the transducer, pay attention to the maximum para
sitic forces, lateral forces, bending moments and torques (see section 11 "Specifications",
page 29) and the maximum permissible load-carrying capacity of the force application
parts used. Section 7.3 "Mounting the force transducers", page 17.
7.2
General installation guidelines
The forces to be measured must act on the transducer as accurately as possible in the
direction of measurement. Torques and bending moments, eccentric loading and lateral
forces may produce measurement errors and destroy the transducer if limit values are
exceeded.
Structural elements that are fixed to the U10F with screws, must satisfy the following
conditions:
S
Upper and lower force application parts must be parallel to each other.
S
Paint and coatings must be removed.
S
Structural elements must be free from oil and grease; they can be cleaned with RMS1
(HBK ordering number 1-RMS1), for example.
S
They must have sufficient hardness (40 HRC minimum).
S
The contact surface has ideal flatness and stiffness if a tolerance of 0.005 mm is not
exceeded both without load and under load.
