Configuration with the BTL7 Configuration Tool
7.1
BTL7 Configuration Tool
The BTL can be quickly and easily configured on the PC
using the PC software BTL7 Configuration Tool.
The most important features include:
–
Online display of the current position of the magnets
–
Graphical support for setting the functions and
characteristic curves
–
Display of information on the connected BTL
–
Number formats and units of the display are selectable
–
Can be reset to factory defaults
–
Demo mode without a connected BTL
The PC software and the associated manual are
available on the Internet at www.balluff.com.
7.2
Connecting the USB communication box
For a BTL with connector the communication box must be
inserted between the BTL and the controller. The
communication box is connected to the PC with a USB
cable.
For a BTL with cable connection the communication lines
La, Lb and GND are connected to the USB communication
box.

Configuration options
Prerequisites
–
Software correctly installed.
–
USB communication box connected to the BTL and
PC.
–
BTL connected to the power supply.
–
Magnet on BTL.
Output functions
–
Position: in measuring range.
–
Velocity: Velocity of the magnet, with the sign
indicating the direction of motion. A movement from
the start point to the end point is output with a positive
sign, a movement from the end point to the start point
with a negative sign.
–
Velocity (no sign): Velocity of the magnet, but the
direction of motion cannot be read.
–
Position difference: Distance between two magnets.
The selection is only possible when two magnets are
selected.
–
Differential velocity: The velocities of two magnets
are subtracted to form a sum. The selection is only
possible when two magnets are selected.
Freely configurable curve
–
The gradient of the characteristic curve can be set by
adjusting the resolution.
–
The limits can be adjusted to the measuring range.
–
The error value can be set.
Conditions for multiple magnets
–
Two magnets can only be selected if the nominal length
is ≥ 90 mm.
–
The distance between two magnets must be ≥ 65 mm.
DANGER
Uncontrolled system movement
When starting up, if the position measuring system is part
of a closed loop system whose parameters have not yet
been set, the system may perform uncontrolled
movements. This could result in personal injury and
equipment damage.
► The system must be taken out of operation before
configuration.
► The BTLs may only be connected to the
communication box for configuration.
► The communication box must be removed after
configuration.
