5 OPERATING THE SPLENDIMO
• Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the moment
the PTO is engaged.
• Do not allow anyone to come within a 100 m radius from the
machine during work.
• Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab.
• The safety covers, canopies and plating (fig. 13) are
essential protective components of the machine. So: operate
the mower only with these components duly fitted.
• Always operate with the safety cover folded down. Secure it
firmly in the clamp blocks (fig. 13).
When using the SPLENDIMO FC mower, make sure that the
hydraulic lift is single acting or that, in case of double acting front
hydraulics, a floating position is possible. A single acting hydraulic
front lift, or a double acting lift with floating position can move
upwards if the mower hits the three point hitch during operations in
uneven fields. If the hydraulic lift is unable to move upwards, there
is the risk of the tractor weight being transferred to the three point
hitch, which may cause serious damage to the mower. This
information also applies to the use of the SPLENDIMO FC mower
in the rear hydraulics of the tractor, or within a Triplo configuration.
The following directions should be followed for operating the
machine:
- Lower the machine by means of the hydraulic ram until it is just
above crop level.
!
- Engage the PTO at the lowest possible engine r.p.m..
- Then rev up PTO speed up to 1,000 r.p.m..
This is also the maximum r.p.m. allowed during work.
- Lower the machine into the crop.
- Ensure the floating postition of the hydraulic valve; the ram has
to telescope smoothly throughout the operation.
During operation there is no need to use the tractor lift system. For
lifting the machine, only a retraction of the ram is required. The
cutter bar will then rise to an extent of abt. 35 cm.
- Do not drive too slowly; effective working speeds start at approx.
8 km/h. A lower speed may affect crop flow-through across the
cutter bar.
- Make sure that the PTO speed of 1,000 r.p.m. is maintained
during work.
A (temporary) drop of speed may cause crop entanglement in the
cutter bar and/or winding of long crop material underneath the
discs.
- First, lift the machine from the crop and then reduce your
PTO speed immediately.
