4.2 Protection against Injury in Case of Breakdown to Chassis (DIN VDE 0100, T 551)
Our generators in standard version are designed for operation with IT-networks and are equipped with a device for protective disconnection with potential balancing. The neutral conductor is not groun-
ded and is not connected with the protective conductor for potential balancing (êÖ). It should be arranged so that the potential balancing wire has no ruptures or breaks (in the system: generator -
connecting wires - consumer). It is allowed to ground some casings of certain devices in order to take away
static charges of electricity. If the generator is connected to the existing TN-network, then it is necessary to get sure that the protective devices provided in that network operate normally; if such devices
are absent it is necessary to install them. If the short-circuit current of a faulty consumer is too high for the generator or if the loop impedance of the circuit is more than 1.5 ohm, it is necessary to envisa-
ge a separate protection (for instance, a protection circuit-breaker) with the corresponding operating current depending on the given length of the connecting wires. If the generator has an automatic cir-
cuit breaker, then for the TN-networks it is necessary to have a grounding device with maximum resistance depending on the selected protective measure. Execution and testing of grounding should be
performed only
by qualified electricians. They should also check serviceability of each protection device when putting it into operation.
4.3 Thermal Protection
The electric power generating units are equipped with automatic circuit breakers used to shut down the unit in case of overheating. Prior to turning on the automatic circuit breaker again it is necessary to
eliminate the cause of its operation (for instance, clean the cooling fins in the cooler housing and fan casing, reduce the loading by isolating a number of consumers in order to eliminate
overload; besides, protection operation may happen due to high ambient temperature).

Requirements to Arrangement
5.1 Arrangement of Electric Power Generator Set on Open Ground
If possible, the electric power generating unit should be located on an open ground. In this case best conditions are ensured for exhaust of hot air and intake of fresh air. An ideal ground is a free space
with an area of not less than 5 m2. There should be stored no fire-hazardous or explosion-hazardous materials, such as fuel, on this ground. The electric power generating unit should be located horizon-
tally; the maximum permissible inclination is 25º. It is allowed to protect the electric power generating unit from
atmospheric precipitation with the help of a canopy that does not impair intake and exhaust of air.
5.2 Arrangement of Electric Power Generating Unit in Premise
When arranging an electric power generating unit in a premise it is necessary to take into consideration the requirements of various technical standardizing documents:
- Local construction norms and rules - Regulations on execution of construction norms and rules.
- Requirements to storage of inflammable materials.
- Standard VDE 18600 "Directives on Design and Operation of Electric Installations."
- Local instructions of technical supervision bodies.
- Instructions VDE 0100 and VDE 0108 on operation of electric installations inside premises.
Note: It is important to observe all local instructions and orders.
When operating electric power generating units inside premises it is necessary to ensure unobstructed inflow of air to prevent overheating of the installation and exhaust of air and exhaust gases to pre-
vent intoxication. The premise should be dry and contain no dust. No flammable materials should be stored in the premise. Particular attention should be paid to exhaust of exhaust gases containing toxic
carbon oxide.
Use of a flexible spiral wrap hose is not a guarantee that carbon oxide does not penetrate into the premise. Therefore, design and realization of assembly of electric power
generating systems inside premises should be performed by qualified specialists.
