10 Definition of terms
Ground reaction force: Lowering the foot to the ground, and thus applying body weight, results in a ground reaction
force. The software model indicates the vector of the total effective ground reaction force and the vector of the hori-
zontal component of the ground reaction force.

Contracture: Permanent shortening of muscles, tendons or ligaments in the vicinity of the knee which results in re-
stricted motion.
Abduction: Moving out away from the median plane of the body
Knee fulcrum-ground measurement: Distance between the fulcrum of the 3B1/3B1=ST Knee Joint and the sole of
the prosthetic foot.
Medial tibial plateau-ground measurement: Distance between the upper edge of the calf bone (tibia plateau),
which can be felt at the side on the inside of the knee, and the ground. This measurement is to be made when the
patient is not wearing shoes.
