tion 8 under „Releasing the chain brake" for how
to release the chain brake
• After filling the fuel and chain oil tanks, close the
tank lid by hand.
• Do not use tools to do so.
7. ADJUSTING THE IDLE SPEED
If the cutting tool still rotates at idle, have an author-
ised service centre set the correct idle speed
Note: If the motor is running at idle speed, the
cutting tool must not rotate under any circum-
stances!

7. Operation

Note that the statutory regulations on noise preven-
tion can vary from one place to another.
Check the following each time before use:
• There are no leaks in the fuel system.

m CAUTION
Never start or operate the chainsaw if the chain and
the chain brake lever or the front hand guard have
not been properly installed. In addition, always start
with the chain brake active. Proceed as follows for
this:
• Grasp the rear grip with the right hand.
• Hold the front grip firmly with the left hand (fig. 1 /
item 6) (not the chain brake lever) (fig. 1 / item 5).
• Pull the chain brake (fig. 10 / arrow direction 1).
Releasing the chain brake
1. Switch the stop switch to '0' (OFF) (fig. 19).
2. Pull the air flap lever (17) out completely until it
locks in place (fig. 18 / arrow direction 1).
3. Press the fuel pump ball (23) 10 times (fig. 1).
4. Place the saw on a solid and level surface. Hold
the saw tight as shown. Pull the starter cord (7)
quickly 2 times (fig. 22 and fig. 27). Pay attention
to the moving chain!
5. Push the air flap lever in as far as possible (fig.
18 / arrow direction 2).
6. Switch the stop switch to 'I' (ON) to start the mo-

7. Hold the saw tight and pull the start cord quickly 4
times. The motor should start (fig. 22 and fig. 27).
m CAUTION
Do not let the starter cord snap back after pulling
it out.
This can cause damage.
m CAUTION
As the air flap (fig. 18 / arrow direction 1) is closed,
the chain starts to move and rotates AT HIGH
SPEED as soon as the motor has started.
8. Allow the motor to warm up for 10 seconds. Press
the safety lock and the throttle for a short time so
that the motor goes into 'idle' (fig. 20).
m CAUTION
Always pull the starter cord slowly (until you feel re-
sistance) before pulling it out quickly to start the mo-
tor.
Do not let the starter cord snap back on its own af-
ter pulling it.
If the motor does not start after several attempts, see
the 'Troubleshooting' section.
Always pull the starter cord out in a straight line. If
it is pulled out at an angle, friction will occur in the
vicinity of the lug.
