UV-Flame detector UniVario FMX5000 UV.ESSER
7
General Information / Application
The UV-Flame detector UniVario FMX5000 UV.ESSER is suitable for detecting fires with rapid
fire development and flame formation, such as for fire hazards from gaseous or liquid materials,
in connection with a fire alarm system (FAS).
The ultraviolet range of the light spectrum (185 nm to 260 nm, UV-C), which is typical for flame
formation, is used for fire detection. Through definition of the measurement range and the
intelligent analysis electronics of the flame detector, it is possible to reliably detect both very
large flames as well as weaker signals from smaller flames. Disturbances are filtered out of the
typical flame signal, thereby reducing the risk of false alarms to a minimum.
The UV-Flame detector UniVario FMX5000 UV.ESSER is largely insensitive to external factors,
such as sunlight or lightning. The robust die cast aluminium housing meets the requirements of
protection class IP 67 and offers the option of operating the flame detector even in areas with
critical ambient conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
Thanks to its low-energy electronics, the battery capacity requirements are reduced for bridging
periods, during which the fire alarm system operates on emergency power.
The flame detector is connected to the loop of the ESSER fire alarm control panel (FACP) via
the esserbus
®
transponder for UniVario (Part No. 808623.10). Messages are transmitted to and
displayed on the FACP. The flame detector also has integrated visual indicators for status
display. The cyclical self-test automatically monitors the proper functioning of the flame detector.
Error messages are sent to the fire alarm control panel via the esserbus
the detector reset is activated via the transponder.
The flame detector may not be used in locations where fire conditions without
clearly detectable flame formation (e.g. smouldering fire) are expected.
The flame detector may not be used in areas which are at risk of explosion.
Fire detectors and their components are intended for protecting people and
physical assets and should be inspected for proper functionality after installation.
Proper functioning is not ensured following incorrect installation!
