f) In addition, the DMM can be connected to a PC by using an appropriate cable
(optionally available) via the uni-directional, IR interface on the case's underside.
After installing appropriate software in the PC (optionally available), communication
is possible between the digital multimeter and the PC (in both directions = bi-direc-
tional). The VC 608 is universally usable: not only in the hobby area but also in pro-
fessional or educational areas, etc.

Handling and commissioning

A Inserting the battery - changing the battery
Your measuring device must be equipped with a 9 V block battery if it is to function
faultlessly. You must change the battery when a battery symbol appears on the dis-
play. Do so by observing the following procedure:
- disconnect your measuring device from the measuring circuit ,
- remove the sensing leads from the measuring device,
- switch it off and
- unscrew the battery compartment cover's fastening screws using a suitable
screwdriver (Phillips posidrive screwdriver).
- Now, carefully lift off the cover.
- Disconnect the used battery from the connecting clip and
- replace the battery with an unused one of the same type.
- After completing the battery change, replace the connected battery in the bat-
tery compartment and
- carefully re-close the cover.
- Be careful when closing the battery compartment to avoid squashing the
connecting clip's leads (red / black).
Never operate the measuring device when it is in an opened con-
dition! Danger to life!
Do not leave any used batteries in the measuring device, because
even sealed batteries can corrode and thereby release chemicals
which can damage your health or destroy the battery compart-
ment.
Used batteries must be regarded as special waste and they must
therefore be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. Spe-
cial, collection receptacles are provided for this purpose by spe-
cialist dealers and at recycling depots.
