The chimney or flue must be sound and clean. If it has been
used with a wood, coal or other solid fuel fire, it must be
swept before the stove is installed.
Ensure that only one stove is served by the chimney or flue
system. It is not allowed to have carpet or linoleum under
the floor plate.
In some situations it may be advisable to fit a flue liner
prior to the installation of the stove. Your installer will
advise if this is necessary.
Note: A guide is published by the British Flue and Chimney
Manufacturers' Association that contains general
information on chimneys and flues. The guide can be
obtained from: BFCMA.
If any of the pre-installation checks reveal inadequacies,
do not proceed withthe installation of the stove until all
defects or deficiencies have been rectified.

General safety precautions
Always check your local codes in ensuring that your
installation is safe and legal.
When using your fire always follow these safety
precautions:
• Ensure that when the stove is used with the doors open,
a fire-screen is fitted to the front of the stove. Also make
sure that furniture and other flammable materials are
placed at a safe distance from the stove.
• Never extinguish the flames or ashes with water during
use as this may cause damage to yourself and the
stove.
• The stove becomes hot during use and may cause burns
if surfaces are touched.

• Ash should be placed in a safe place outdoors or
be emptied in a place where it will not represent a
potential hazard. Check your local fire regulations.
• A suitable lidded container of fire-proof material should
be available for storing soot and ash. The deposit
should be kept for at least 7 days to ensure that any
embers are fully extinguished. If the container must
be emptied before this, add plenty of water and mix
thoroughly first.
• Keep the ash. It is a first class fertilizer for roses and
other plants.
Installation of Jøtul F 301
Note: Check the insert stove to ensure it is free of any
damage prior to the installation.
The product is heavy! Have an assistant on hand prior to
commencing installation.
Floor shield
If the stove is to be installed on a floor made of flammable
material, the floor beneath and in front of the stove must
be covered by a shield of non-flammable material (check
your local codes concerning measurements). A floor plate
of enamelled cast iron can be supplied as supplementary
equipment. The stove is protected such that an insulated
material is not required between the shield and the
combustible floor.
Foundations
If your Jøtul F 301 is to be installed over a wooden floor,
ensure that the floor under the stove is strong enough to
bear the weight.
Chimney
The stove can be connected to a brick, pre-fabricated
element or a steel chimney. See separate section.
Minimum chimney cross section must be 177 cm
(corresponding to 150 mm dia.). Connection to chimney
must be done in accordance with the installation
instructions from the supplier of the chimney. Smoke gas
entering enclosed spaces may represent a serious health
risk.
Assembly prior to installation
The product is delivered in a single packing case where
the base section, the flue bend and the heat shields must
be assembled.
1. After unpacking the product, release the heat shield
and the base plate which are attached to the product.
